Next year's draft may include Super Seniors, Seniors,  Super Juniors and Juniors. Will current "true" Juniors be difficult to sign because they think they may move up a notch next year, but be "old"? Will first and second rounders demand over slot money because of this? Why do multiple rounds if no first year leagues exist, play another year of  college. If MLB has no season, how will they line up the picks, lottery based on 2019 season? IMO, to be fair, MLB should decide what will happen in next year's draft before this years if no season is played. There are certainly a lot of possibilities.

I think it’s interesting to simply see how thinks shake out if no one plays baseball for a season. You get another full draft class I guess, but where do they go? Who do you cut to make room? The ramifications of a missed season, and not just a strike shortened one that only affects the majors, but one that cancels every baseball season in the nation, are unprecedented. Truly scary, fascinating, so many adjectives.

Social distancing will last until late summer if projections are accurate.   Doubtful we see much baseball this season.   We'll have to draft based upon last years' performances.

I suspect Tigers take Torkelson at #1.   O's will have to choose among Martin, Lacy, Hancock, and Gonzales.

I prefer Lacy, myself.....  Looks like an Ace.

I've watched both pitch.

Hancock has an elite arm.   FB can hit upper 90's.  His secondary offerings are all pretty good.

Lacy is lefty.  FB consistently in Mid 90's.  Secondaries were not as good as Hancock's last year, but look improved this year.    Lacy has better FB command, Hancock has better secondaries command.

Personally prefer Lacy.

Have to hope that our front office is and has been preparing for the draft all of this time.  The chaos or extra noise surrounding this draft should create an opportunity for those best prepared.  I am sure it is an advantage that our first pick is so high.  What I will say is that pre-spring lists are traditionally skewed toward college players - as has been the case this year, but that many high school prospects make up ground in the spring - especially the guys with good stuff who see their fastball velo rise from mid-low 80s to low 90s as happened with Zach Britton.  It does not appear that HS players will get on the field nearly as much as would be preferred to properly analyze and compare.  That said, our front office has a background with Houston and with us last year to lean toward college players with only a couple of HSers mixed in - and those mixed in were HS hitters and not as much pitchers.  It will be an interesting draft.

Zach didnt increase his fastball, he perfected his sinker, where it was unhittable, and his goto pitch. Then toss in a 94 heater and you got dominance.

Juniors won’t be getting the eligibility. Only senior from what I now read.

ZB was a classic "late riser" with his fastball velo improving dramatically at the beginning of the spring season of his senior year.

Per MLB 2006 draft tracker, "he jumped on radars when his FB hit 94 early this spring".  I remember the Baseball America pre-draft blurb on ZB and was pretty giddy when the Os drafted him.  Have to laugh when the truth gets posted and someone tries to correct it.

ZB had also almost pitched his way out of the big leagues, because he was so inconsistent.

Would save the league $400 million.  Would hurt the Orioles if they draft two years worth of players next year as they would lose out on a high pick.

    • I am with you on this.   This is what Elias does.   Like O'Hearn.   Elias signs Rivera for about 1M, and brings him to ST.    If there is not room for him on the roster on OD Elias DFAs him and tries to get him through waivers to play at AAA.    Then he is available whenever the injuries occur.   I could see Elias doing the same thing with Bowman.
    • I think the Orioles will tender him arbitration. Before anyone gets too worked over this possibility, keep in mind we also reached an Arb-1 deal with Sam Hilliard last year. Despite the gold glove, Rivera is a better defender than Ramon, but Urias is the better hitter and superior overall player.  However, Urias will also cost more and could bring back more in a trade.   Further, Urias could get injured at some point.  If Urias is injured in spring training, then yes “something went wrong to cause Rivera to be on the OD roster”, but it will still be good to have this depth.
    • I’ve watched enough baseball to know that any team that makes the playoffs can get hot and do well once the postseason begins.  I’m not optimistic about the playoffs, but it also wouldn’t shock me if the O’s made some noise.  It’s a matter of getting the pitching and hitting on the same page.
    • ha! I didnt say it WOULD all come together,THATS a jinx,I said they MIGHT all come together...that doesnt qualify as a jinx...
    • Mayo would likely need to be optioned when Westburg/Urias/Mountcastle return.  By doing it today instead of tomorrow or Tuesday, Mayo’s 10-day minimum option length will be over in time for him to be eligible for wildcard series.  On the other hand, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where Mayo makes the postseason roster unless there is an injury (in which case there would be an exception to the 10-day rule).
    • Why would he want to?
    • Rivera on this club next year would be a step back. He can’t sniff Ramon’s jock. If he’s back on this roster to start the season, something went wrong.
