Mike’s reaction to 45 vs 50 vs 70 wins

Yeah, I've been of the opinion they might take the 2019+2020 records for the 2021 draft order.  Or something similar beyond just using 2020 records.

I suggested that a little while ago. That seems the most fair to me. The bigger "half" would be the true state of teams (162) and still factor in this flukey season, which is still a season... sort of.

Not sure you’re saying this but I don’t think the objective in the Bleier trade was to weaken this team. I also don’t think, if we’re comfortably sitting in 2nd place (or at least in good shape for one of the two “wildcard” spots) that the team will be weakened with the implicit goal of losing games.

I could see a trade of one of those three and Lowther or Kremer or someone entering the rotation. That being said, I’m certainly not counting on LeBlanc or Milone being of value to another team at that point and would almost prefer they get traded ASAP.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree. I don't think Elias has any intent on trying to improve this team. He's goal is to give guys opportunities in order to evaluate them for the future first and foremost.

His trade of Bleier weakened the bullpen, so how does that strengthen the team? Are you expecting an actual good prospect in return? Why would the Marlins give up a good prospect for a 33-year old reliever when they were literally trying to scratch together a roster?

If it was contending team I could see the potential to get some kind of return, but it appears Elias saw this as an opportunity to strengthen the roster of a team that will be competing with the Orioles most likely for one of the worse records over the last two seasons which is what I think MLB will take into consideration when they set the order for the 2021 draft.

I’m hoping we get back a Marlins top 30 guy. Hoping that trading him this early in the season does indicate that he was “overpaid” for (albeit in a thin market).

If he really was trying to strengthen another team which would benefit us in the end then I’d be impressed and happy to call him our GM.

I think this is all a non-issue because we don't have any veterans that other teams are most likely going to give up valuable prospects for - maybe a secret decoder ring form a box of Cracker Jacks.  I have zero interest in acquiring potential 5th or 6th starters, and I can't imagine we're going to be buyers.

And the last thing I'm going to is complain about getting is a few more wins. If it happens, it happens.  Woe be we.

    • I could see McGough getting added, possibly this year. He has a solid resume. Could become the next Vespi (optionable lefty guy) especially if we lose Vespi to waivers. I predict Billy Cook gets traded for a bullpen arm.
    • Yates (37) could be a very solid rental.  He was lights out great as the 2019 Padres closer with 41 saves.  He then missed most of 2020, all of 2021, and most of 2022.  He came back and pitched well for the Braves in relief last year.  This year he has been great again, looking like the guy he was in 2019.
    • @VanceWilder’s complaint is that Mike hasn’t addressed the problem, which is true. I’m sure Mike is calling folks but he’s unwilling to pay the price. Who is traded is really moot. Someone needs to be brought on board, and that hasn’t happened yet.
    • No. I'm not going to be bullied into using bad stats.
    • when Holliday obliterated AA at the same age with an OPS over 1.000, against the same washed up pitchers that Basallo is having success against. Whats good for the goose. Basallo will put under the same scrutiny As JH when he does what JH did come up and make a mess of it for 3 weeks. Maybe they are both too young. Its a rare talant the can handle MLB at such young age
    • No resting on our laurels: Tampa: “Once again one of the very best systems in baseball, the Rays have a high-end combination of big time impact talent at the very top of their org to go with overall depth.”  (1 60, 3 55, 49 at 35+) Boston: “This is perhaps the deepest system in all of baseball, and one of the best.” (1 55, 4 50, 47 at 35+) New York: “This system is healthy (that’s a formidable group of 50s up top) and exciting.” (1 55, 5 50, 36 at 35+) The O’s still have the upper hand, with 1 70, 1 60, 2 55 and 1 50, 45 at 35+.   Two of our top guys listed have graduated or will graduate this season.
    • I respect your opinion, but there is no other reason to have Urias over Mayo right now.  I guess we could get creative and keep Urias till September by option Cowser to get Mayo up here. Or we could go with a short bullpen and rotate fresh arms in the 7th pen spot.
