Hitters better than Davis can adjust more frequently.  I am not saying that changing speeds have no impact on timing, because it does.  But this is what you get when you are constantly extraordinarily bad.  All of a sudden counts don't mean as much, because even if the pitcher throws a bad pitch, Davis will miss it most of the time.
