Because he’s dumb?

That’s an idiotic post that is blatantly in violation of the board rules. If you want to see dumb, then go look in the mirror. The team has the 29th smallest payroll in MLB and is currently 15 games over .500 in mid June.

Main thing I didn't like was pulling Baker after only two outs and then going to Voth up only three and a man on base. I guess they really, really dislike extending their relievers and Voth was the only other RHP available aside from Baumann. Fortunately he didn't do too much damage and Cionel saved the day.

So, O’Hearn in to first, Urias to third and Adley behind the plate.

Did he not pinch-hit for Mateo there because he will have to pinch-hit for the pitcher later in the game?

Was thinking the same thing.   That would have been a good spot for Frazier.  Two outs and a runner in scoring position.   Still would have had Lester to PH in the pitcher spot later (and McKenna if the pitcher spot came up in extra innings).

On the radio they said McCann may have hurt himself running to f irst ,so he had no choice

Wishing him a speedy recovery and all but that doesn’t excuse why they subbed Mateo in the defensive half of the inning but still let him hit. I realize that they burned the DH when McCann came out of the game but if there was ever a time to pinch-hit for Mateo it would have been right there.

Not disputing hitting for McCann.  My issue is that once you had, and the other moves that followed, Mateo was leaving the game anyway so why have him bat with 2 outs and 2 on.

Jim Palmer said on the post-game show that he felt that Hyde should have pinch-hit for Mateo.

When I saw McKenna in the on deck circle to hit for O'hearn last night, I was disappointed. Hyde loves his right left matchups, no matter the hitter. I would have hit Ortiz there if you are going for that matchup. We still had to use Ortiz anyway, and if we went to extras, we would have burned through only one player instead of two.

    • Not really. What SP are you taking off for him?   It seems like our guys reached some theoretical milestones of being an all star but they did a 2-3 deep at each position. Picked the players based solely on that position and not versus the entire position group. For Ex. It was DH v DH. 2B v 2B. COF v COF.  The only gripes are possibly, Westburg vs Peredes but the one player from each team rule.  Santander vs OF but they need guys that can play CF.  Kimbrel vs Holmes maybe here but Kimbrel getting demoted and not spreading out his rough outings affected perception.  Do they still do the last player in vote?  If so, Santa and Westburg could be on the ballot?
    • Well the NFL Rams franchise deserves some mention as they started in Cleveland in 1937, moved to LA in 1946, moved to St. Louis in 1995 and back to LA in 2016.  Fascinating that in each stop they have won a season’s ultimate prize (either NFL championship or Super Bowl)! To add some extra spice to the Rams franchise history they were involved with the Baltimore Colts in what was the largest trade of all time as described here. https://www.nfl.com/news/sidelines/digging-into-the-colts-and-rams-1972-franchise-swap-was-the-greatest-biggest-tra
    • I still say crochet isn’t traded. It makes sense for Chicago to trade him but they could still get a ton for him in the offseason or at the deadline next year if things go right. I do not feel his value is at its peak right now BUT his value does risk to take a huge drop if they don’t trade him. It’s not an easy spot to be in for anyone involved in this decision.
    • I don’t think many/any want or are eager to get rid of any of our very talented young players/prospects. However, I for one, am even less eager to see us roll with the pitching staff as is. The question/dilemma is what is the right amount of talent to acquire this year (and potentially beyond given the state of the rotation) to give us the best shot possible to be successful in October? And how to we balance that against our future potential/possibilities that some of the young players provide. It’s a very precarious position that Elias is in. We all hope that he makes great decisions that lead to both success now and in the future. But I get where you are coming from Kjerstad seems to have an elite power tool as the ball seems to really carry off of his bat.
    • I’m disappointed more O’s didn’t get in, but it’s hardly the biggest travesty in all star history, so, shrug. Jim Palmer mentioned on the broadcast that he didn’t make the All Star team two of the three times he won the Cy Young.
    • I get that everybody wants the best of both worlds. But 2 questions: 1) What would be the plan for the pitching next year if we just went the rental/shortest term route? 2) Is Quantrill a guy that you trust making postseason starts? If so, what gives you confidence in him?
