Listen, I get the contract was awful, but you got to take responsibility for your actions. This whole CD fiasco doesn't reflect positively on the organization IMHO. He should have been cut long ago.

Not knowing exactly what the injury was that led to him being on the 60 day IL, I was certainly concerned that at some point he would be declared healthy and, legally, the Orioles would be required to reinstate him to the 26 man roster (or cut him, which they would likely not have done for fear that they would have to pay him in case of a work stoppage next year).   I was not looking forward to that occurring, as it would hurt our bullpen depth (there's no way we could have gone to having  just 12 position players with Davis being one of them).

Now that is no longer a concern.

I suspect Davis has played his last game as an Oriole.   Once the CBA is settled and next season begins, I cannot believe they will keep him.   If he is healthy and cannot be hidden on the DL, he will be cut at that point.

Chris's last game in an Oriole uniform will turn out to be a 7 inning game last Sept 11 at the Yankees, which we lost 10-1.   He played first and went 0 for 3.   Only one strikeout.

His last game at Camden Yards will have been August 19 vs Toronto, when he was 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts.

His last hit at Camden Yards, and his only hit at Camden Yards in 2020, will have been a double vs Boston on August 12 last year (he was 1/21 at home in 2020).

The last of his 253 HRs in an Oriole uniform came on September 23, 2019, when we lost in Toronto 11-10 in 15 innings.   His last HR at OPACY was the day before, at home vs Seattle.

Would you have insured that contract?

We have no idea if it was insured and at what percentage.

I was worried that they'd have to put him on the roster at some point this year.  This team isn't great, but I like watching them play.  Davis would have sapped some of that enjoyment.

Here's hoping that he's cut next year.

Exactly my thought, but not entirely sure because I thought insuring contracts was harder now. Albert Belle's degenerative hip, that ended his career with the Orioles, had a negative effective on insurers that previously wrote policies to guarantee player contracts.

Albert Belle could blister a baseball. I don’t regret that signing. That was bad luck, he had immense talent.

Well, the people who intimated that Davis or the Orioles were inventing an injury to give them an excuse to keep him off the roster should apologize.   I hope they do cut him next year, but there was a legitimate medical reason he wasn’t playing.   I hope his surgery allows him to lead a pain-free life.
