It doesn't take ANY #1 picks to fix it.

Ok Corn, Oops, I mean SG.

Of course it doesn't.

They could sign some better players, but wait, that isn't happening either.

So in the meantime, lets put a crappy roster together and let them play, and we keep telling the fans, we are in it for the long haul and bring up the bottom up, that should buy us, another 3 years .

This is brilliantly said.  Its almost as if every team in ML history has won solely because of top 5 picks.  Surely, there is evidence that backs that up, right?

Show me evidence that this team has signed and brought in major league off the FA market, or traded to get somebody.

Andy and the DD built a winning team by trades, internally and finding diamonds in the ruff.

Tell me what Elias has done.

First of all, this has absolutely nothing to do with your point about needing #1 overall picks.

Secondly, Elias has made several solid trades and brought in a few good draft classes.  He hasn't been allowed to spend in FA as of yet.

I’ll be at the game with my paw. Lord grant us strength! Big Tom vs Greinke, can we pull off the miracle of miracles? It’d be neat to see!

We aren't any bigger an underdog than we were when Asher Wojciechowski faced Justin Verlander in August of 2019:

Anything can happen!

Or, hasn’t chosen to.

Reverse jinx!

Thanks brotha. We will be seated in section 111 behind the O’s dugout 6 rows back. Look for my dad wearing his Mancini jersey. I got it for him as they both fought and beat the crap out of colon cancer.

Awesome man.  Enjoy the game.  Maybe you'll be in for a pleasant surprise.

Multiple high draft picks sure can help when you're putting together a team. But has been pointed out, this isn't the NFL or the NBA, where one or two draft picks can turn a team around.

So far, Elias has been trying to build the team through draft picks (those he inherited and those he's made) and other teams' castoffs. (The Orioles' international signings, even if successful, are to going to contribute for at least a few more years.) That's a good start, but will it be enough to compete with teams that have multiple sources of inflowing talent, even though their draft picks are lower? I really doubt it.

What a game! What a win! Can’t believe it happened! If you look closely at the highlights, I’m the fella with a black shirt and white Orioles cap on. Pretty amazing seats and a pretty amazing experience to see it with my dad. Much love O’s fans. The best is yet to come for us as well!

    • If there is "loyalty" to a guy that you could trade to make your team better, then Elias isn't the guy you want running the ship.  I think loyalty is a good thing to a certain extent, but if you can turn Mateo+ into a useful bullpen arm, I think you have to do it.
    • Like I said he might have thought it was foul, he still made it close but he would have been easily safe.
    • Feels like Elias/O's are trapped in a no man zone between the past (Mateo/Urias/Hays/Mullins, Mountcastle) and the future (Mayo, Norby, Holliday, Kierstadt, Basallo) It was a fail not clearing the roster of a few veterans in the off season, and/or not trading prospects for pitching. The O's seem stuck now, not wanting to upset the roster of a winning team, while staring down another quick post season exit due to a lack of elite pitching. With only a few quality pitchers available I feel like Elias is going to largely stand pat and try again this winter to create a WS contending roster.
    • But were they as good as the ‘69-71 Orioles teams that only won 1 of 3 World Series?  Not even close, in my book.  They just played very well in October.   And Fingers was huge for them in the WS they won.
    • They are also around 11-12 games out of playoff spot. That’s if they won out and the other teams continue same pace.
    • He will get less years, almost for sure, because he’s two years older than Cole was when he hit free agency.   I can’t say he won’t get a higher AAV, but for one thing, it depends how many years Burnes gets.  If it’s 6 years or less, he almost certainly gets a higher AAV than Cole.   But if it’s 7 years, I think it’s uncertain.  If it’s 8, I’d say probably not. Putting aside age, I think Cole had a little better track record than Burnes will have going into FA.  It’s very close though. Cole: 1195 IP, 127 ERA+, coming off a 20-5, 185 ERA+ season. Burnes: 828 IP (probably ~910 at end of the year), 132 ERA+, coming off a year where his ERA+ is in the 155 ballpark.   Of course, there’s always salary inflation to be considered.
    • That doesn’t mean he won’t.   He just doesn’t want to discuss it now.
