I'll also say this:  to watch this team be as bad as they are each day...I dunno, I'm kind of numb to it.  Like I expected this team to win anywhere between 45 and 55 games.  I certainly didn't expect a 19 game losing streak.

So, it's a bad team.  A very, very bad team.  But, like...to look around at the standings and see ANOTHER team that I don't pay attention to and see how bad THEY are from an outsider's perspective, it's like...damn, they SUCK!  All the while not acknowledging that they're just as bad as we are.

I don't really know how to describe it.  It's just a general feeling that when you see another team with just over 40 wins, how bad that is.  And then the realization that your team is just that bad, too.

I wonder if Texas and Pittsburgh execs can believe that there are TWO teams that are actually way worse than theirs.  To have 4 teams in the league that could easily lose 100+ games is pretty impressive.  Of course it is only possible when none of them occupy the same division since the 19 head to head games would practically eliminate the possibility of having two teams in the same division that are both that bad.

It isn't like Arizona gets blown out a lot.  They are somewhat competitive.  They just have an incredible and almost impressive knack for losing games.  I feel like they were predicted to win 75 games or around that heading into the season.  To maybe get to 50 is really "impressive" from an underachievement standpoint.

The Pirates have a -205 run differential despite having the 10th easiest schedule in baseball and a team in their division that completely gutted their roster at the deadline. They are thrilled that the O's and Dbacks are taking the brunt of the anti tanking discourse despite the fact that they might actually have a worse team.

But I think they make a great case for being in better long term shape.

I mean the AL East has 4 90+ game winners and every team except the Yankees is in the top 10 farm system rankings released by BA. The NL Central isn't anywhere near that. I would much rather be in their position but they don't have more talent in their system than the Orioles do. Their Pythagorean W-L is the same as ours. They are unquestionably on the same level of suck as this roster. I highly doubt they'd be confident they'd win a 19 game series against us.

Well the division matters and they have a lot of talent in their system, not to mention a guy like Hayes in the majors.

Ok....which is why I said I'd rather be in their position. That's really a function of luck though. Predictive measures have their roster on the same level as ours and no evaluators have their farm system ahead of ours so if we were both in the NL Central, I'd rather have our talent. Their owner is also significantly cheaper than the Angelos family.

Well we don’t know what the ownership of the Orioles will be going forward in terms of spending money.

I would bet on the Pirates system being rated ahead of ours very soon.

Ok and what about Pirates ownership? Go ask their fans what they think. I'm pretty confident they won't be outspending the Orioles year after year. There is no evidence that will happen. Way more evidence the opposite will happen despite your contrarianism.

Maybe. But I doubt it will be by a substantial amount at all at least for the next year or two. In any event the O's are getting ready to promote a 70 FV and a 60 FV to the big league roster. The Pirates don't have a single prospect in their system rated that highly. Hayes, no longer a prospect, was the closest and he may be a great player but there's chatter that his ceiling was inflated last year as some serious warts at the plate have showed up for him.

Arizona now has the number 1 pick.

Dang, I was afraid that miracle win would carry a hidden cost. Like the year (I forget) we had one too many rare wins in Sept and lost the chance for, was it Teixeira?

It would only be temporary, due mostly to losing Adley and GrayRod (and perhaps Baumann, Stowers) to graduation next year.

I'd bet money on the O's farm system being rated ahead of the Pirates for offseason 2023 and beyond. Elias has been crushing his hitter draft picks, making smart trades to pick up young international players, developing pitching in a subtle manner in the lower levels of the minors, and developing our international presence.

The amount of talent we have at low A right now is pretty crazy. Love to see it.
