Reed Trimble to miss most of 2022?

Rough injury even for the non-throwing shoulder.

Even two good Delmarva months in Aug/Sep wouldn't really bring Arizona Fall League into range next year.

I've heard Tony comment at times about front shoulder/back shoulder and one being more of a concern than the other for hitting impact.  Trimble switch-hits, so this would be his back shoulder for most at-bats.

Not good for a guy who got off to a terrible start this year. Maybe the injury was already showing up this summer, and caused the poor performance.

On the negative side, you can pretty much write next year off.   On the positive side, this might have something to do with his less than auspicious debut last year.  Also, we have tons of outfield prospects and losing a year isn't the worst thing in the world.   The big thing is if this has any lasting impact on him once he recovers.    Hopefully not, and he'll be back to full strength towards the end of next season and participate in the Fall instructs and get a do over in 2023.  Stuff happens.

It's not the worst thing but it's a pretty bad thing.

Even with a full recovery he's going to be 23 just starting his career as a pro.  It's going to be an uphill battle for him even if things go right here on out.

This might explain why he was so terrible at Delmarva. Wonder when it started hurting him? Wonder if it was something down in Fall camp?

It's his non throwing arm so it shouldn't effect his throwing but we'll have to see how it effects his hitting when he returns.

Also the guy who several posters wanted us to draft, Jordan Lawler.   He tore his labrum about two games into his minor league career.

Elbows you can fix, knees you can fix. Shoulders (even non-throwing) are BAD. They're never right again.

Which, in the alternative timeline in which the O's drafted him, didn't happen.

Well, that lets some of the air out of the tire when it comes to our glut of outfield prospects.  A nice return to form from Kjerstad next year will make everyone feel better.

It's certainly not ideal, but if I were him I'd just be targeting spring 2023 for the first time as a pro I've been in the best shape of my life. There are a million hitting drills he can do for ~ 6 months before that time where he'll be able to build his swing into something that he really wants for 2023. This is a setback. Not a sentence of failure.

Sure, I'm not suggesting he pack it in and give up.
