MLBTradeRumors has posted the MLB owner's new worth.  Angelos is not particularly high on the list.  He ain't poor, but he's nowhere near the richest, either.

I'd say every person on this list is crazy rich.  If you have more than $100m in today's dollars, with correct financial planning neither you nor your descendants will ever have to work again.  Should be enough to last generation upon generation, unless someone goes absolutely nuts with it.

When the Royals go for a billion dollars on the open market...

I'm always curious about the sources and methods used when putting together lists like this.  About half the references are to an LA Times article that's behind a paywall.  Perhaps coincidentally it looks like all of the owners who are not billionaires have that LA Times article as the source.

An example is the Reds' primary owner is listed as being worth $400M.  Forbes says the Reds are worth just over a $1B.  So, how much of the Reds does Bob Castellini own?  It couldn't be more than 40%, right?  Probably can't be that much, otherwise his entire net worth is the Reds.  I think it would be very unusual for a modern MLB owner to have few assets outside of the team.

Could be as low as 15%.

Some strange things about this list. I have to assume that, with no statement to the contrary, the value of the interest in an MLB team held by each of these "owners" is included in their net worth. As others have noted, that leads to some odd results.

Forbes used to be known for having a pretty rigorous process in determining the net worth of the wealthiest individuals. I don't know whether that's still true, but I think it's likely there's some real digging that goes into the Forbes numbers. The LA Times article (which I was able to link to) doesn't say how the estimates were made.

Peter Angelos's interest in the Orioles has been reported to be about 80 percent of the team. When you pull out the debt and use Forbes' valuation of the team, Peter Angelos's interest in the Orioles is worth close to $1 billion. The L.A. Times lists Angelos's net worth at $2 billion. https://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/story/2020-06-26/roster-mlb-billionaire-team-owners-who-rule-baseball   That figure may come from something called Celebrity Net Worth. https://www.celebritynetworth.com/list/top-50-lawyers/  As I recall, it's also the ballpark (sorry) guesstimate that I and some some others used a few years ago: $1 billion in the Orioles and $1 billion in other assets. There was a $2.1 million figure floated a few years ago. https://moneyinc.com/the-20-richest-mlb-owners-in-the-world/

So why isn't Angelos included on Forbes's list of billionaires? I don't know, but all the information I've seen suggests that the $2 billion -- $1 billion worth of Oriole stock (actually, a general partnership interest) and $1 billion in other assets -- is probably pretty close.
