Tanner Scott and Cole Sulser traded to Marlins

Can't imagine we will get much in return.

Update:

Decent return. My initial reaction was based on Scott being the only player traded.

For all of the naysayers who say it is about saving money, this deal actually will end up costing the Orioles money even though Sulser and Scott will be replaced by two players making the minimum. While they will save approximately $300K on the MLB payroll based on replacing Scott's salary with the minimum, the Comp B draft pick carries a slot value of around $1 million and the Orioles have always spent very close to their full draft slot allotment.

Velez, a pitcher, was undrafted in 2020 out of Florida State due to the draft being shortened to 5 rounds. Baseball America ranked him as the Marlins 34th best prospect, but listed him as having the best changeup and best control in the Marlins system in their 2021 Marlins writeup. Velez turned 25 last week, and he made 2 starts in AA last year after spending most of the season in Advanced-A ball. I imagine he will be a member of the Baysox rotation to start the season.

Guerrero is an outfielder who turns 18 in two weeks and signed for $600,000 out of the Dominican Republic in the 2020-21 class. BA ranked him as the Marlins 29th best prospect this offseason. He had 159 PA for the Marlins DSL team last summer for a .260/.373/.298. I would think he would be a member of one of the Orioles DSL teams this summer, but it is possible he ends up on the Gulf Coast League team at some point this year.

Guerrero was a $600k sign in the Marlins international class last year.  Nice little lottery ticket.

Thanks! More on the pitcher herehttps://www.prospects1500.com/nl-east/marlins/miami-marlins-top-50-prospects-2022/

Two average relievers for a potpourri and you hope one hits. I'm ok with it, as I don't think Sulser or (especially) Scott were markedly different then any of the other relievers the Orioles have. Prieto was basically taking Scott's spot anyways.
