Irvin excelled in short relief at the end of last season when he had a defined role. That was an expensive role for his salary, and he knew that he’d be back this year to try and start. When he went to relief this year, it wasn’t just short relief, and it was more a let’s get as much out of you as we can before we DFA you.
A total mentality shift from last year in the pen to this year.
He’s a guy that I would still bet makes 15-20 big league starts for someone next year. Maybe multiple teams.
Sadly, the 2024 Orioles reached their high water mark of +24 on June 20, and though it was able to match it a few times (July 3, 5 and 7), the O’s slipped from there and now cannot get back to +24 before the regular season ends.
I really wish I could get excited for the playoffs. I find myself depressed and the only thing to look forward to is the Yankees getting knocked out. This should be an exciting time, but it is a train wreck.
Ohtani with 6 HR in his last 6 games. He and Betts go back-to-back in the bottom of the ninth to win. Ohtani is a once in a lifetime talent. Dodgers going Ohtani, Betts, Freeman at the top of the lineup isn't fair. They are firing on all cylinders. Meanwhile, my team.......
