It's worth noting that the original schedule had us playing Toronto in one of the first two series of the season (the other was @Boston).

Both series were victims of the lockout.   The Toronto series was tacked on to the extra 3 days added at the end of the season, Mon-Wed Oct 3/4/5.   The Boston series is being made up piecemeal:   we have a Saturday day/night doubleheader later this month at Fenway in what was to be  a single game;   we have a single standalone game at the Red Sox in August on what was to be an off day for both teams;  and a 3 game series in September at Fenway that was to be Tue/Wed/Thu is now a 4 game Mon-Thu series.

That's the case for every team, one series got tacked on the end of the season, and the other is being made up in goofy ways throughout the year.   For example, right now there is a doubleheader going on in Detroit with the A's and Tigers.   The A's are the home team for the first game.   I assume that is because a Det@Oak series was wiped out by the lockout, and they are making one game up today in Detroit with Oakland batting last, and at some future point in the season the Tigers and A's will play a standalone doubleheader in Oakland on what was originally an open date for both teams.

With no tiebreak games anymore, the head to head tiebreaker is critical.   We are 2-2 vs Toronto this year, if we can go 8-7 in these remaining 15, then we win a tie with them for a wild card spot.

Regular reminder for these 15 games and the Adley-Vlad and Grayson-Gausman seasons to come of one Mr. Kevin Gausman's recent perspectives on the Baltimore Orioles teams of the early 2020's.

"Unfortunate to put the team in that situation," Gausman said, according to the Toronto Sun's Terry Koshan. "It's embarrassing, to be honest, to go out and do that against a team I think we should beat. Maybe that sounds bad to say, but I think we should beat them more than we should lose to them."

The 31-year-old allowed five earned runs on seven hits to the last-place Orioles in his worst start of the season.

 

What might have bothered Gausman the most was his poor outing came against the team he spent the first five-and-a-half seasons of his career with after they drafted him fourth overall in 2012.

"I was there for a long time, and so (I) really wanted to go out there and shove it to them, to be honest," Gausman said, according to The Athletic's Kaitlyn McGrath. "To do that, not what I envisioned my first start against my former team, so that sucks."

I'm not mad about Odor being on the roster if our guys have to throw hands.

One thing to remember with Gausman is he will never be mistaken for a Mensa member. To hold a grudge against an organization in which no one is left who drafted, developed or pitched you seems pretty juvenile. 

Saying that, now I kinda hope we smash him again. lol

I just assume that it's one of those "and I took it personal" moments that pro athletes use to get themselves hyped up.  I get the sense that for people like Jordan that anger makes them more focused.  It's probably not the healthiest approach from a mental health standpoint, but I guess it works for some people.

      Right..if the Orioles can trade for Brenton Doyle (my favorite top target), why should we care that his salary is low? Also in that scenario, Mullins is likely gone, so payroll would actually go down I believe. But someone like Bemore wins would still complain because the payroll isn’t where he thinks it should be.

      I think PFF is grading Roquan badly because the safeties behind him are playing like ass and it's making him look bad.  If teams are going to attack him over the middle on crossing routes with WRs (like KC did with Rice) he doesn't really stand much of a chance if the safeties behind him don't throw him a bone.  He's still a huge help in the run game.   In general I think PFF assigns a little too much blame to linebackers on passes over the middle, so unless you're an elite coverage guy at LB it's really hard to grade well.  The flip side to this is that teams probably need to adjust their coverage areas to account for the fact that LBs aren't going to be able to hold down WRs for long.

      Thanks. This tells me what my eyes have seen with Roquan. He's been a liability in coverage and the fact that Simpson is ahead of him is not good for our defensive leader. Do you have the PFF grades for offense too?

      What you want is perfectly reasonable.  But you seem entirely to focused on money.  The team needs to work to improve.  I don't care what it costs, you shouldn't either.  They are going to spend money and payroll will be higher next year and the year after that.  We need them to make improvements and some of that is rightfully going to come from within and not cost much. The improvements that are needed are going to cost too, I'm not saying they wont.  But ownership and the GM should simply work in tandem to make sure the team has what it needs.  I am not really concerned about how much that costs because it should be able to be done without jumping this particular team into say top ten in payroll.
