Stinks for Krehbiel but glad to hear regarding Vespi.  Now, as long as he has some success, keep him up, keep your best bullpen together, and stop this shuttle nonsense.

Yea I wonder how long he will be up for? Maybe since hes replacing a guy they were counting on, they will keep him up for now.

The question is... is he one of the two low men on the totem pole or not?

Someone will go down when Watkins comes  back, or when another starter joins the rotation to replace the currently vacant #5 starter spot.   Not sure when that will be.

A pitcher will have to go down on June 19 when the roster limit for pitchers is reduced from 14 to 13, unless that deadline gets extended.

So the bottom two guys on the pitching staff are probably not up here for the long term.   It seems to me that may be Baker is the most vulnerable, but after him, the picture isn't as clear.

O's need a 5th starter on Sunday June 5th.  Reyes and Kremer are probably candidates.   Watkins is not eligible to come off the IL until the 9th.  He probably goes on rehab  assignment and how he does on that may tell if he is activated to the O's or optioned.

Yes, and also he might not be ready to even go on a rehab assignment at the end of his 15 days.

As I said, someone will go down when we bring someone up as a 5th starter, OR when Watkins eventually comes back.  Whichever comes first.   I agree with you that the 5th starter could come first, although it's possible we try to get through Sunday with a bullpen game composed of guys we have on the roster now, heading into the off day Monday, then we wouldn't need to bring up a 5th starter until next Saturday in KC.

And someone will have to go down when the roster limit drops to 13.

Are you saying Vespi is clearly better than. Krehbiel? What non shuttle guy is Vespi clearly better than? We have to have some kind of shuttle to get through the season.

Yes, I do think Vespi will be better than Krehbiel, though Krehbiel was a nice surprise.  For his sake I hope he's not out for long.

No, I don't think we need a shuttle to get through the season.  Especially not when you have a ridiculous 14 pitchers on the roster.  Build your staff/pen correctly and you don't need to do that.

I think he has done enough to deserve an extended chance to see what he can do in the majors.

Don't know about Krehbiel but that is a moot point because he looks to be out of the picture for a while.

I think Vespi could very well be better than Baker.

    • I would say it’s without a doubt better competition.   Many current and former ML players in the winter leagues.   The Arizona Fall League is basically AA.
    • Per CBA rules, hasn’t most (90%) of the deferred buyouts have to be already set aside in present value?  This is why not shown in the payments itemization.  Same with Bobby Bonilla for NYM and why Shohei Ohtani shown in terms of AAV present value.
    • Are we at the point that we want to give the backup catcher 225-250 PAs? If that's the case, I'd like to see an upgrade from McCann.
    • 1.5 months of data shouldn't make any difference. These guys have too much upside to trade. I'm most concerned about Mayo, more due to lack of position than the early hitting results. Still, no regrets even if Skubal was available, which I highly doubt
    • I'm not in the group that expected us to miss the playoffs a few days ago.  This thread was a bit silly at the time, and has now become completely irrelevant.  But stating we are going to win 5 of the next 9 games as a fact, is just as ignorant as the people who think we are going to lose out or continue the tailspin to the point that we will miss the playoffs.  As much as I can't stand constant negativity, I also can't stand people who have no tolerance for any negativity, or pessimism, or whatever you want to call it.  If you just want to be a part of a cheerleading group and resent any criticism of the team, a hardcore fan message board is probably not the place for you.  Not just speaking to this poster, but as a retort to similar opinions in general.
    • Would the team be any better off with Skubal than they are now, considering the hitting woes?  I think that’s debatable, and questionable enough that I wouldn’t give up that high level talent to find out.    Who knows if the Tigers would have even done that?  They’ve made a nice run behind Skubal and the rest of their staff since the deadline. I think it’s a good chance they extend him to lead that young team into the next several years of what they hope are contending teams. Decent position player pool there.
    • The Tigers are a fun story, reminiscent of the ‘22 birds a little bit (if that team had had a CY winner heading the rotation). But we need to end the dream for them this weekend. Take care of business versus Detroit and next weeks games will hardly matter. We can get our staff set up for the WC series after their next turn. That would be ideal.
