To me it now seems clear Tex wanted to be a Yankee all along, that's why Boras went after Cashman twice when the Yankees seemingly didn't have interest.

Tex wants to play 1B for the team his idol played for.

Unfortunately by doing so, he's alienated most of the population of the area where he grew up. Tex will find in time that it will be one of the biggest mistakes he's ever made...

Well, the Yanks come to town often so we'll have plenty of chances to tell him how we feel.

I have a stange feeling that they will trade B-Rob now and move Freel to play second. I hope they trade him to Cincy for Votto. What i really hope is AM has something in mind to give these fans something to cheer about next season.

Would Cinn do that trade? I wouldn't. Say bye to Brob and Kakes.

I no longer support Andy MacPhail. Clearly he talked PGA out of this. There's no way we couldn't have beaten their offer. I assume it includes an opt-out clause, though, which wouldn't have made much sense for us. It makes alot more sense for the Yankees, who want to win NOW. I'm not even pissed that the O's didn't get him, I'm just pissed that they didn't make it clear that they were out and not increasing their offer. They strung us along for nothing.

Although I am glad because the Sox didn't get them, and I am also glad because due to the ridiculousness of this offseason by the Yankees, I think people will realize that something has to be done to balance the amount of money teams spend on payroll.

How so?

Your silly threats are just that silly and getting old.

He got the money he should have gotten.

Just because the orioles front office is a joke don't take it out on Tex.

At least Tex gave us a chance to sign him.

O's front office never wanted Tex! You should be glad that PA didn't get in the way, and that AM stuck to the plan.

Funny..this is the position everyone thought AM was in.

BTW, i am going to take back some of what I said about AM...Ultimately, a lot of this falls on PA as well. I basically totally blamed MacPhail and that wasn't right on my part.

Look everyone is missing the point...

A New Hope: Rays made the playoffs

The Empire Strikes Back: Burnett, C.C. and Tex all sign with the Yankees

Does everyone know what's the next? The O's obviously will fire MacPhail (unless Angelos the Hutt hasnt already frozen him in carbonite (B-Rob : I dont want an extension, Andy: I know), hire Lando as the new GM who will sign like 20 Ewok's. Every single one of those Ewoks is a potential automatic walk. They'll have to pitch to Wieters, B-Rob, Jones and Markakis and we will score like 20 runs a game..which will lead to Brian Cashman throwing Hank Steinbrenner off a high walkway...

This is so obvious guys I dont know why you're worried/upset.

The worst thing about this is really that somehow we sat on our hands this whole time. It's not like we used the fact that we weren't distracted by Tex to swoop in on some other players. Now all the other options are going to out of control in price e.g. Dunn. What were they doing this whole time?

You insider bashers need to take a timeout. The information those guys provide is only what they hear and they will even tell you to take it's for what it's worth. I for one appreciate the info they have provided as this place would have become mundane without their contributions. The problem is that many of you took everything that was posted as gospel even when the insiders said many times to "take it for what it's worth."

Rant over!

Great post. In Bigbird's defense, he was saying that we wouldn't get him all along. His guy and my guy both were saying Boston unless something happened, and it looks like New York swept in and got him at the last minute.

Hey all. I tried to post this earlier, but the server was down, so I posted it on Local Sports Hangout. Here is is again....

I just got off the phone with my father. This is a done deal, as the Yankees came in and put in a comparable offer to Boston, who apparently offered more money. This decision, he said, was made because the Yankees offer a chance to win now, comparable dollars, and they are closer to home than Boston. The Orioles never bumped their initial offer, and refused to go to 8 years in the end. We were his first choice, but we had the worst offer in the end. A sad day for us all.

If that's the case, then he definitely was going to the Yankees all along. How can one definitively say that NYY is closer to a ring than Boston? I don't buy that the Orioles were his first choice one bit. He was using Boston, B-more, Washington, and LAA to drive up the price.

Wow...I take back what I said earlier if this is true.

Unreal. The chance for us to finally make a statement to the fans of Baltimore, and Angelos, who supposedly coveted this player, didn't have his man make it happen.

This franchise truly is a joke...and if I were Markakis and Roberts, I'd be on the phone with my agents saying that an extension with this moribund franchise ain't happenin'.

Okay... so... now that the Yankees have gotten him, the Orioles front office is a joke? Does it make the Angels and the Red Sox FO's a "joke" as well?

Chalk this up to another moment in Yankees money-grubbing history. It leaves everyone's head scratching and shaking their heads as well.

It does NOT make any FO a "joke."

Haha...my how the tides change when emotions get in the way. Haven't we been calling (maybe it was just me) for PA to step aside...and when he finally does...........AM knows what he's doing, and he has 2 rings to prove it. Think before you post!
