He's a 30 year old DH who has a negative dWAR and has only had two seasons where he was above starter level WAR with a career .1 WPA.

Negative dWAR is irrelevant.  An average defensive 1B or a DH has negative dWAR.   That just comes with the assigned role.  It’s all about how you hit.

True, but he probably will this year.  Look, he’s a solid hitter and a good clubhouse guy.   Is he a star?   No, but nobody said he was.

Obviously this topic is discussed elsewhere but I thought a poll would be a good way to crystallize posters’ reactions.   What say you?

Good poll. I don’t really know how to answer it because my feelings about the trade are colored by the fact that I had to try to explain it to my young son who was crying upon learning the news and saying “I just want to want to watch Trey Mancini play.” I’d probably say I didn’t want to trade him for that reason, but I also get it, accept it, and am not disappointed in what they did (in contrast with the Lopez trade).

He was a great guy who handled adversity well, but his production is not going to be hard to replace.

Love the return.

Love that Mancini goes to a contender (for his sake)

Love that this opens up at bats for Vavra and Stowers

Love that the Orioles helped a team that has a shot to knock off the Yankees.

Love that Yankees fans were whining about Boston and Baltimore trying to sabotage their World Series hopes by sending good players to the Astros.
