He needs to be in the lineup every day from here on out.  Gotta see if we have something here.

He has been in there most of the time lately, but at DH.

I want to see him at second base everyday with Odor on the bench. He proved he can turn the DP tonight. I’m thinking that is Hyde’s main hesitation to play him there regularly.

McKenna can get some more time in the OF with Santander at DH if they still refuse to bring Stowers up but Odor needs to be phased out.

Also, does anyone know the correct pronunciation of his last name?   The public address announcer put the emphasis on the second syllable (Vav-RA), which I haven’t heard from the TV or radio guys.

Not that I can vouch for accuracy but BBRef has it with the two soft syllables:

Pronunciation: \vah-vrah\

https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=vavra-000ter

And the fact that everyone that shows up in a quick Google search appears to be of Czech descent leads me to believe BBRef's pronunciation is likely closer to accurate than the emphasized "RA" pronunciation.

Again, can't say for certain-sure, though I did figure out how to say 'Cionel' (see-oh-NELL, I was originally thinking 'scha-a-nell) from BBRef and that appears correct.

Orioles might have found their future leadoff or second hitter in the lineup for the next 5 to 6 years. Only way to know is by playing Vavra everyday with the occasional off day for rest.

If he can stay healthy, I agree.

He could be a 10-20 HR guy with great OBP. That plays well in the 2 hole.

Love to see him get the start at 2B against the lefty. Hyde praised his ABs again after the game, and the double play turn to end the game was very nice. He's slowly worming his way into Hyde's heart, which is good news for those of us who would like to see Odor on the bench.

I'm sure Hyde was watching those DP turns last night very closely.  He's already stated how impressed he is with the AB's.  Turning two twice last night on good strong throws is good to see and will hopefully lead to more starts at 2B for him.

I believe Vavra had the most DP's per game among 2B in the upper levels and maybe the whole system.   I'm sure that's not a stat you can take to the bank but it is interesting.

Was Hyde worried that Vavra would forget how to turn the DP going from the minors to the majors?  Worried that his DP turning ability wouldn't translate?

They've got a pretty good idea of what these players can bring on defense before they make the majors.

The only knock I've heard about Vavra defensively is the arm and maybe Hyde has heard the same. I think he's a little paranoid about Vavra not making a play under pressure or late in a close game. I agree it's kind of silly. The arm looks plenty strong to turn DPs and you can make up for a bit of lack of arm strength with good fielding fundamentals.

Hopefully last night got him out of Hyde's 2B doghouse a bit.
