The talk on here was for the Orioles to not sign Penny for more than a year but in the article it reads that he could be had for just one year.

I agree with you. The Yankees made huge signings, sure, but they were in positions of desperate need. If you look at the Rays, for instance - they needed a corner outfielder. So they got Matt Joyce. It's not a $100 million signing, and it didn't dominate the newspapers for weeks, but they filled their holes just as well as the Yankees did.

Great low risk high reward signing for them. I knew this would be the deal they would make awhile ago and I am so sad I turned out to be right. He will probably be dominant for them.

McAdam has more on the Brad Penny deal, too. The agreement, a one-year deal with a base salary of $5MM, will be finalized Monday. Incentives and performance bonuses can increase the total deal another $3MM if Penny pitches more than 160 innings, McAdam reports.
