I feel better about the deal now.

It's a fine move.

We got a Chirinos comp spending an additional 1.65 million per season and we are stuck with him for two years.

Would you have brought back Chirinos for 2.5 million?

They we’re nearly identical hitters and Chirinos had a DWAR of .5 versus -.1.

Can I take Option C , and neither of these two? :)

He's projected at an 86 wRC+ next season and is an upgrade on defense.

Hopefully he can get a few more balls in the air.

Chirinos is 38.

If you inked him for 2 years, he'd be 40.

Maybe that played into the decision a little.

Is this a stellar deal? No.

But he's a cheap backup catcher coming off a down year. If he gives us what he produced in 2018,19, 20 with the bat and plays replacement level baseball behind the plate, he's OK by me.

You wouldn’t have to give 2 years to Chirinos. If you aunt had balls…..well you know. McCann been bad for 2 years and we can dream of the previous seasons but it’s extremely unlikely.

Chirinos was 700k ….how is being locked into McCann for 5 million over 2 years cheap.

Projected …. I’m projecting he’s going to suck!

Seriously, as I mentioned his DWAR is actually worse than Chirinos by .6.

I think you're investing an awful lot of emotional capital in trying to draw a distinction between two barely replacement-level backup catchers.
