You’d rather lose?

Of course not.  Of course, we don't know if Urias would have matched what Frazier did, now do we?  🙂  Frazier had a good day, no question, so I'll eat my crow for today.  Still doesn't change the fact that he's been a below average player this year, both with the bat and in the field.

Is this true?

He's been above average with the bat for a major league 2B, so no.

Below average in the field, it appears so.

Baltimore is 10th in the majors in value out of their 2B.  This includes the majority from Frazier, as well as minority %s from Westburg, Urias, Ortiz and Vavra.

Yup.  While most sites aren't yet updated for todays game, so this will change a bit, his .OPS is .696, MLB average is .730, so that's below average.  His OBP is .299, MLB average is .320, so again below average.  Defense numbers are all over the board, but most of them show he is a below average 2nd baseman.  But there are numbers where he's ok at 2nd, like fielding%, so pick your poison there if you'd like.  The eyeball test to me shows he doesn't have great range, and misses some balls he should stop and catch, balls that I'd expect an average 2nd baseman to stop.

What is MLB average in those categories for 2B? According to WAA he is 0.2 (before tonight). Even if he is below average in certain categories Id say he is within the margin of error most would consider average.

Fair enough.  A quick search on MLB.com (https://www.mlb.com/stats/?position=2B), which is updated to include Fraziers great day today, he is 14th out of 21 qualified 2nd baseman in .OPS, so he'd be in the bottom 1/3rd.  Average, 1/2 way, would be 10.5, which Frazier is below.  In OBP he is 18th out of 21, so close to the bottom of the list.  So by either of those stats he's below average when compared to other 2nd basemen.   This list only included the 2nd baseman with enough PA to qualify.

Per Fangraphs, 2B as a whole are hitting .247/.314/.381/.695.

Adam Frazier: .240/.305/.424/.729 (including tonight).

Seems pretty average. Apparently the qualified group skews above average.

Mountcastle and Mateo back starting.  Cowser out again this time against a left hander.  These next two games to me for Mountcastle and lesser Mateo could be big deciders if they can at least hit left handed pitchers.  If they don't look good the pending decisions on who to send down or cut could fall on their performances.  We will see.

On Tuesday, when I expect GRod to be called up,  I think its between righty Mountcastle and lefty Cowser being optioned if there is no injury before that.   The move to AAA is only for 10 days so it may not have a big impact.    The choice between the two may be about the matchups with the other teams starters over the next week.

I'm not understanding their thought process with promotions. Seems only Westburg is getting playing time. Every other prospect promoted has been relegated to seat-warming time more than playing time.

Probably because they are winning with what they have.  What is it now?   A 6 game win streak?

Cowser came up while Hays was injured. Now Hays is healthy and we also have Mullins, Santander and Hicks for OF/DH. Not a lot of room for him. Do they need a lefty or right on the bench more? Seems they need a the RHB to platoon with OHearn so it looks like Cowser could be the odd guy out.

    • I don't doubt his stuff.   I doubt his command.
    • Language like “…salvage the season” is beginning to appear which is more than a little premature. I share the concern about having enough pitching for the postseason.
    • Suarez needs to go the bullpen and he could definitely help there in a long/middle relief role. Suarez's fastball is averaging 95 MPH this year maybe pitching in relief and can add 2 to 3 more MPH when he needs it.
    • The trade deadline is a while freaking month from now, plus a few more days. I know it’s hard to believe because this board can’t go thirty minutes without discussing a trade and the Trade Deadline thread was created a long time ago (lol) but come on. Why are you convinced Elias will do nothing? Angelos is gone. There’s no reason to expect he will have to go to Ollie’s Bargain Outlet this time.
    • I floated this idea the other day.  Going to try a slight different version today. For Crochet,  Kjerstad, Norby, DeLeon For Fedde,  Bradfield, McDermott, Chace 1. Feel free to call them overpays or underpays 2. Do the White Sox say no? I think those are two strong packages or one overall very strong package.  I think the Crochet deal is clearly stronger than the Burnes deal was at the time for a pitcher with more control but durability questions. We still hold onto our top 3.  They can try to manage Crochet’s workload if they/you believe in that.  Bottom line, we strongly upgrade the starting staff.       Burnes, GRod, Crochet, Kremer, Fedde.   You’re back to having depth with Irvin to the pen and Povich to AAA.   You can use Crochet as an opener to manage his innings. We still have chips like Beavers, Willems, Baumeister, Fabian to get rental relievers. Of course, this guts a lot of top and mid level prospects but it keeps Basallo, Holliday, and Mayo here.  With the upcoming draft, and the Latin program showing real progress in the lower minors, I think there’s no doubt we can take the position player hit.  Losing McDermott and DeLeon is tough but if you get two starters from the Sox you have to send some arms back.
    • Teams have slumps, with or without injuries.  Add in a beyond belief amount of injuries,  and you have the 2024 Orioles.
    • Elias plan is pretty simple and has been executed to near perfection.  Give the team as wide a window as possible to be a playoff participant and build a team capable of winning the whole thing if things break their way.   Based on the last several post seasons the team that hits the most home runs in any given series has won that series.  I think he has accomplished those goals. This organization is setup to have a 3-5 year run as a world series contender.  I have no issue with the plan or even the overall execution and anyone who does is not seeing the bigger picture in my opinion.
