We really are in a monster of a division

Time for an update on how the AL East is doing when not playing intra-division games:

TBR 26-8

BAL 23-12

TOR 22-11

NYY 20-15

BOS 21-18

Overall, that’s 112-64, for a .636 winning percentage against the rest of baseball.

It’s also interesting to see what’s gone on within the division:

TBR 13-8

BAL 11-7

NYY 10-10

BOS 7-7

TOR 6-15

The Blue Jays have been quite the whipping boys.

Time for another update of the AL East record outside the division.

BAL 43-26

TBR 43-29

TOR 49-25

BOS 37-36

NYY 40-30

That all adds up to 212-146, a .592 winning percentage.  Thats down from .636 when I last updated this on May 29.  In the intervening period, the AL East has gone 100-82 (.549).   Still very dominant.

Within the division:

BAL 19-12

TBR 18-13

TOR 7-20

BOS 16-11

NYY 13-17

Wow what the hell is wrong with Toronto. Also, am I reading this wrong or was Toronto previously 42-5 outside the division? Surely not.

You are reading it wrong.  The bottom list is how tesms are doing when playing the other AL East teams.  Toronto has been awful within the division.

Oh duh. I should have known by the header “within the division” haha. I guess the question goes back to what the hell is wrong with Toronto.

Update on records outside the division:

BAL 57-35

TBR 60-37

TOR 61-36

BOS 50-51

NYY 49-42

The total is 277-201, for a .579 winning percentage outside the division. That’s down from my July 25 update, and the division has gone 65-55 (.542) in the interim.

Within the division:

BAL 26-15

TBR 22-15

TOR 12-25

BOS 19-14

NYY 16-26

As can be seen, the O’s have fewer divisional games left to play than TBR, TOR or BOS.  The O’s have 7 with BOS and 4 with TBR to complete their divisional schedule.   TBR has 6 with TOR, 5 with BOS, 4 with BAL.

You must mean TBR, since they have 4 games with us. I believe we are done with TOR.

The AL East ended up playing .580 baseball outside the division, at 319-231.   By team:

BAL 69-41

TBR 68-43

TOR 68-43

NYY 60-50

BOS 54-56

Within the division:

BAL 32-20

TBR 31-21

TOR 21-31

NYY 22-30

BOS 24-28

Here’s the record of the various divisions outside their own division:

ALE 319-231 (+88)

ALC 228-322 (-94)

ALW 261-289 (-28)

NLE 294-256 (+38)

NLC 274-276 (-2)

NLW 274-276  (-2)

The NL won interleague play, 362-328 (.525).  The AL East teams were 126-104 (.548) in interleague play:

BAL 26-20

TBR 27-19

TOR 30-16

NYY 23-23

BOS 20-26

Needless to say, the AL Central and West were drubbed in interleague play.  The Central was 97-133 (.422) and the West was 105-125 (.457).  Among the NL divisions, in interleague play the East was 122-108 (.530), the Central was 123-107 (.535) and the West was 117-113 (.509).

Any way you want to slice it, the AL East was the best division in baseball, but they were really able to pile it on against the weak AL Central.  The AL East went 104-56 (.650) against the AL Central and 89-71 (.556) against the AL West.
