As long as Orioles fans don't let Yankees fans take over Camdem Yards, it should be good.

With the way ticket prices are at Camden these days, at least in the box seats I don’t see it. I’m going to the game tomorrow in Philadelphia for much cheaper then I can see it in Camden yards and they’re just about sold out

That’s pretty much mathematically impossible.  Figure $50 per customer.  You’d have to sell 240,000 extra tickets in roughly 30 home dates.  8,000 tickets a game.  Not happening.  But at least it could partially defray the cost.

That covers his salary? It doesn’t cover the value of the lost resources.

I was including advertising and Merch sales.

Someone found an Angels quote saying he's worth an extra 20M so he pays for 2/3 of his salary maybe?

Maybe I'm wrong since I'd never buy a jersey but I think they'd move a ton of Oriole Ohtani jerseys in two months.

Also for attendance, if his presence leads to more home playoff games that would be a nice bump to revenue.

I wonder if a lot of people would buy a jersey for a player they know will be gone in two months.  I guess some collectors would, and big Ohtani fans would maybe.  But if I’m buying a jersey, I want it to be for a player who has been or will be around for a while.

I don't like the Ohtani deal, there's no way the Angels would accept what I'd be willing to offer. Sure you're getting two players in one, but that also means you lose 2 players if/when he would get hurt. Also, his bat isn't replacing the Mateos of our lineup. He'd be supplanting Ohearn or Santander.

You do know that Ohtani is a MUCH and I mean MUCH better hitter than O’Hearn and Santander. Probably better than both combined!

I absolutely would! I have those other jerseys as well. But Ohtani would be a keep sake. Kind of like my Ripken jersey or my Brooks Robinson one.

IMO, I think this is where people overvalue Ohtani for this trade, including the 'expert' reporters. Of course, Ohtani is more valuable than Machado was. But not as much as people are saying in most of these potential trades. If he was locked up for 2+ years, then yes. All trades would have to start with Jackson.

Since it is a rental, how much more is Ohtani worth than Machado for 2 months of baseball? Certainly some, yes. But I think 2 top 100 and another lesser piece or 2 gets it done. The Angels might want more "since it's Ohtani, the god, the legend, the best player in history...whatever" but then they won't get a deal done and have him walk for nothing.

In the system we have now, I'm not sure Bannon, Pop, or Valera crack our top 20 maybe even 30. That's 3 of the 5 we got for Machado. Diaz was a nice top 100 prospect and Kremer was solid. We took what we could get, rightfully so. Ohtani will take more but not a lot more. Kjerstad/Cowser and another top 100 should already be close for the deal, then throw in 1 or 2 outside our top 10.

Ohtani is well on his way becoming the best / most unique person to ever play the game. What he's doing is unprecedented. Saying that people are overvaluing him and that he's  not significantly more valuable than Machado is ridiculous. Whoever trades for Ohtani is getting a a better offensive version of 2018 Machado AND a present day version of a pitcher like Gausman. Re-read that sentence again and let it really sink in.  Oh, and for good measure you also get a extra roster spot!

I agree. I feel like Kjerstad is probably going to be set up to go for rookie of the year next year.

How about Hall, Norby, Beavers and maybe another throw in? Probably doesn’t get it done, but that’s why the trade probably doesn’t happen.

I wouldn't miss any of them, though I have a feeling Hall is going to figure it out.

I also wonder if Ohtani is going to have a greater risk than most pitchers simply by being in the batters box so many games. I seem to remember that the Mets made Dwight Gooden hit RH even though he was LH? They wanted to protect his pitching arm from facing the mound?

Can you imagine Ohtani getting a $500 mm contract, and getting hit on the right hand or wrist by a 100 mph fastball?

True, but the point is we need to take one of our best hitters out of the lineup, not our worst.

I don’t care who you take out of the lineup for Ohtani. He is a significantly better hitter than every hitter we have. He has more than double the home runs of our best/highest home run hitter.

Obviously you put him at DH and don't think twice about it, that point is low on the list but is still valid. I just don't think 2 months will be worth the asking price.

I just done see the Angels being to get a maximum return for a 2 month rental, even one as awesome as Ohtani. The teams am with the most prospects in the game right now all value their prospects (including the Dodgers who the Angels don’t want to trade Ohtani to). Of the most likely suitors (non-Dodgers) the D-backs, Reds, O’s, Rays, none of them will be willing to give up a king’s ransom in prospects.

I was thinking about this Ohtani thing and what he alone would do for our World Series odds.  Kind of made me think, I wonder with Peters health if John Angelos or his Mother might tell Elias to be a little more aggressive this year than they planned on to try and get Peter a ring.

I feel like that would be a normal approach from a family that owned a professional sports team, but with this dysfunctional family, who knows.
