When did a starter lose his position due to being on the IL?

Ryan Mountcastle went on the IL due to a diagnosis of vertigo. Ryan was reinstated from the IL just before the All Star game. Since resuming the regular schedule, Brandon Hyde has used Mountcastle sparingly as a designated/pinch hitter. Ryan O'Hearn has continued to start. WTF? Ryan Mountcastle has been "stinging" tha ball when he has had at bats.

Mike Elias and Brandon Hyde have not, have never supported veterans with the acknowledged folkloric assurances of being a starter. Veterans should take into consideration that "management" does NOT have their best interest at heart when/if they negotiate at the end of the season. Loyalty is a two way street. The undiscussed aspect of this post is that Ryan Mountcastle is a better defensive first baseman than Ryan O'Hearn. Since the All Star break there has been more than one game wher O'Hearn has allowed a base runner that Mountcastle may not have allowed.

Mountcastle was hitting terribly before going on the IL. O'Hearn was already getting opportunities and simply outplayed Mountcastle for the job, at least vs RHP. Going on the IL does not guarantee you get your job back since this is a competitive professional sport.

Welcome to the board, Mr. and Mrs. Mountcastle!
