Something I struggle with sometimes is do I want the Yankees to lose every game for the remainder of the season? This is better for them long term in terms of draft position...... or do I want them to win exactly 80 games and miss the playoffs every year?

I think in terms of what is worst for them long term i think it might be going 80-82 every year.

It doesn’t matter what Atlanta does they have home field advantage in World Series with National league win in all star game.

That rule was changed after the 2017 season.  Best record among the pennant winners gets home-field advantage in the World Series.

I've always used the hierarchy:

Rule #2: Root for a particular outcome if it benefits the Orioles

Rule #3: Root for whoever plays the Yankees

Rule #4: Root for whoever plays the Red Sox

Given the scenario above, looks like Rule #2 could be used for the Braves-Yankees series if it helps to ensure the Orioles would have home field advantage in the WS.

Shane McClanahan is getting TJ surgery and probably out through 2024. A really bad break for him.

I wasn't sure whether or not to start a new thread on the Rays so it's good to find this one.  The Rays are going through quite a bit of adversity all of a sudden.  They've been 15-21 since July 1st.

Like FlaosFan says, McClanahan is done.  He's been out for a while, but now they know they can't rely on him for the playoff race.  Their rotation does still include Tyler Glasnow, Zach Eflin and Aaron Civale, but they've had to rely on "openers" like Shawn Armstrong and Jalen Beeks to fill it out.

Then we have the Wander Franco situation.  Now that the subject matter has been leaked... even if he is innocent of any charges coming his way, this would be a stain on his reputation/career.  If not, he's going to prison.  And it has the potential to be a huge distraction.  Not to mention, they've lost their All Star shortstop who was OPSing 819 with stellar defense.  He was second in the AL in rWAR (behind Ohtani of course) and fourth in fWAR.  So they've brought in brand new rookie Osleivis Basabe.
