Kevin Brown

I'm a big fan of Kevin Brown esp when he's paired w/ Ben McDonald.  I know that some of you hate the back and forth needling between Kevin and Ben but I think it's just part of their routine.  To me, Kevin and Ben are the A Team.  Like to hear Palmer for the stories if he's paired w/ someone like Kevin otherwise he just sort of meanders.

Yeah I don't understand the hate for Brown.   I grew up listening to Ernie Harwell and George Kell as play by play guys in MI.  And he is just as good.  I don't get the hate.

I just find him annoying.  I miss Gary Thorne.

I liked John Lowenstein a lot, but I can't remember who he was paired with.  Was it early Miller?  I just don't remember, but I loved his humor, stories, and insights.  I think he fell out of favor for being a bit too critical.  But he wasn't a play-by-play guy.

Mel Proctor. I think sometimes Palmer with them in 3 man booth.

I apologize if this is asked and answered already, but where is KB? On vacation?

I guess he did the statcast version of Sunday Night baseball last night. Not sure if ESPN is going this every Sunday game rest of year or not.

You say that but if he came back how long would you be able to stand him calling fastballs sliders and change ups fastballs, etc. lol

Or saying a pitch missed low when it was an inch below the strike zone and 3 feet outside

I like KB and think he is Uber talented.  He has an incredible voice and a passion for the game.

With that said, his pop culture tangents get a little annoying.  But then again, I can’t imagine the things that would come Out of my mouth if I had to talk for 3 hours non-stop.

Accuracy and players' names were never Thorne's strengths, lol.

He was super likable, had a great voice and brought excitement to the game.

With how excited he gets when food is brought to the booth, his next gig may be on The Food Network. Lol

I love Kevin Brown. I miss him every game he is away. The entire game feels different to me. He feels as if he is a personal friend to me already. Ben is also great to have on the broadcast. Geoff is growing on me. We have a great team. I liked Thorne but I actually like this team more.

I really like Keven Brown.  I think he is great announcer.  Even my wife, who is Asian (but fully American) and has never watched baseball other than when we watch the Os games, says he is a very good announcer and that he doesn't look like his voice haha.

What more do you need?  :)

I don't find him annoying, but I lament missing out on Gary Thorne and Ben.  I know the ship has sailed, but that combo would have been SOLID GOLD!

Times change.  Time marches on, I get it.  It's not that I don't like Kevin, I do, but...  I guess it might be the shortness of the braise... He's still early in his career.  All I know is I haven't really missed him.

I think that "Radio Guy" voice is what I'm missing.  Not the Michael Reghi, Bruce Cunningham, Ron Burghandy stuff, but as I'm an older guy now, I appreciate the lower tenor of a Jon Miller, Chuck Thompson, Gary Thorne.  Maybe if Kevin starts his voice conditioning by plowing thru 2-3 packs of Marlboro a day he'll start to get the tone where I prefer it.  Calling wise, I have no problem, but a cigar once or twice a series might help him out. ;)

I didn’t find a recent Ben McDonald page but I wanted to mention Ben is on the ESPN national broadcast tonight on ESPN. ESPN never airs Monday night games anymore but tonight for some reason they are on.

    • He’s an awful matchup for Cowser
    • As badly as we have played for 2 months now, we STILL have not lost more than 2 in a row since before the All Star Break.   So I'm going to cling to that and say we get the W tonight.   Then one more in the series and take 2 of 3. I am as perplexed by the hitting slump as everyone else.   But I refuse to believe it is "real" and somehow indicative of talent, and that it is impossible or even unlikely that we will break out of it.   Adley IS better than the numbers we have seen for several months.   Just by virtue of age, Holliday is a guaranteed lock to put up better overall numbers than he has so far.   O'Hearn, like Adley, has enough of a track record that we know he is better than what we have seen the last month or so.   Santander is slumping which was somewhat expected due to his great stretch, but that slump won't last forever either. There's absolutely no reason this team should have so many games with no hits for the first 3-4 innings, or only 2 or 3 hits for the first 6, 7, innings or even the game.     It sure as hell leads me to question what kind of hitting coaching we have, but I refuse to believe the team we are putting out on the field should have those kind of games with the frequency that they have been.   So I can only conclude that it will end.   Gunnar has started getting hot.   If a couple more hitters join the fun it can be contagious.
    • You are never as good as you look when going well and never as bad as you look when you are not going well. That’s always the reality.
    • He very well may not have an injury, but also very well may have back that's bothering him a bit. I don't know, but I have to hope his absolute awful slump at the plate since June is because of something not right with him physically.
    • I don’t think his performance was as sustainable as it was in previous years though. He was hitting the ball slightly harder, but his walk rate was way down and his K rate was way up. His BABIP was also a lot higher than his career number and IIRC, his xwOBA was worse than his first 2 seasons. He was still good but most advanced stats pointed to him still being worse offensively than his first 2 seasons. His BB/K rate has stabilized at least, he’s just not doing any damage when he makes contact.
    • We have a very bad end of the year schedule for attendance.  We know once school comes back that attendance will drop unless you have important games vs teams in contention.  Our schedule since middle of August when schools went back has is. 4 games Houston drew well but then had the Sunday night game the day before a lot of schools went back that hurt attendance. 3 vs the White Sox 3 vs the Rays 3 vs the Tigers  3 vs the Giants. All the big series seem to be on the road.  Red Sox which is semi fighting for playoffs, Yanks which could be for division then Twins which could be for the 1st Wild card seed.   The Yankees and Twins series would have drawn well well for us compared to what we will see with who we have.
    • Attendance is only going to be so high for weekday games, especially during the school year.  Next year you won’t have the Phillies series at home, so you have to adjust for that as well. So the team is going to have to do some special things (agree with Frobby that winning in the postseason will help). One thing I don’t see happening as much is the drive to sign up for season tickets now to get postseason tickets this year. With so many getting to go last year, after years of not going, there is a certainly level of novelty that gets worn off the second straight year. So I really think what they do in the postseason and offseason will determine where things stand for next year.
