The Orioles Winning The World Series Would be Unprecedented In Modern Baseball History

I am not really concerned about Adley, Gunnar and Holliday leaving after 5 or 6 years.    Will Gunnar be worth 10/300 at 27 years old.  Maybe.  Do I the expect mid market O's to pay him that. No.  A big market team probably will.  This is the system that MLB  and the union has put in place.   The Elias and the O's need to deal with it.

What happens with Santander this off season will be an indicator of what the O's may do with players getting close to FA

Elias has put together the scouting, drafting and analytic teams to find replacements for these players.   They can identify amateur, minor league and major players the O's may want to acquire.   He has put together the pitching and hitting development teams to improve players.

These teams have developed GRod and Bradish who could be #1 and #2 for the O's rotation in 2024.  That keeps the O's from needing to spend big on pitching in the  FA market.   And in what world did anyone see O'Hearn who was picked up for 1.4m and DFA'd being a key part of the O's lineup.  Mostly because the hitting coaches changed his  swing mechanics.

I think Elias team can replace players as they get close to FA.

What concerns me is that Elias may not be with the O's in four years to make that happen.

Even the Rays understand that they sometimes need to identify a core player and shell out to keep him around. If the O's aren't ever willing to do that, then I think your view of how easily they'll be able to maintain the current level of talent on the roster is going to prove overly optimistic.

We told him about Schoop last time.

Not EVERYBODY is about money, money, money. The vast majority of Boras clients are about maximizing compensation at the expense of all else. Everybody is different. I could not relate to that. I am a veteran. Served in the Marine Corps. I didn't do it for money. I did for patriotism.

Yes, we know you are.

You've told us every time you've changed your name after getting banned.

I thought you were disillusioned from your time in the Corps?

Didn’t the marine corp teach you about honor Mr Splash Rambo Cruuz88?

I served honorably and proudly. I am an Iraq combat vet. When I went into the marines I was 19 years old. I later became skeptical of why we there. I was a young kid who didn't know any better. I resent George Bush.

Wow you aren't even bothering to hide the fact you are trying to circumvent a banned account.

I think your post above is pretty ample proof and I imagine you'll be gone soon.

Tschüss.

After you've seen what I've seen, getting banned or protecting your online anonymity does not phase you.

Sammy Basallo says hi.  Just give him another 2 years or so to reach the majors.

Sigh. One player doesn't mean the system is efficiently producing talent. My point is that international players represent an economical means of producing future big league performers. When the system starts producing multiple players like Basallo, and especially when it starts to produce pitchers, then the O's will have a reliable international "pipeline." I don't think the O's have that now but they have taken steps to improve.

Do we have the best lineup in the AL for the playoffs?

1. Mullins L CF

2. Adley S C

3. Gunnar L 3B

4. Santa S RF

5. Mountcastle R DH

6. O’Hearn L 1B

7. Hays R LF

8. Frazier L 2B

9. Holliday L SS

Hicks, McCann, Westburg, Urias, Mateo

I don't think we will see Holliday this year but this would be my fantasy lineup for the playoffs this year

1 Holliday 2B

2 Rutschman C

3 Henderson SS

4 Santander RF

5 Mountcastle DH

6 O'Hearn 1B

7 Hays LF

8 Mullins CF

9 Westburg 3B

Kjerstad, Hicks, Frazier, Urias, McCann

    • Not saying it doesn't matter at all or anything, but I feel like I can't even trust established stats like OBP in the minors, let alone something as esoteric or flimsy as catcher ERA. More and more I just don't know how to interpret minor league stats, haha.
    • I second this for exactly the same reason.  Pitch clock is easily the best thing that’s happened to the game in my lifetime.
    • I wouldn’t call Flaherty a minor trade. He was a proven SP with playoff experience that was having a good year. He was exactly what we’re looking for right now. A SP to get us through the regular season with Game 3 upside. I will agree that we need to do better to win a WS. Probably a lefty with our ballpark.  To that point, Kjerstad is now a member of the mlb team. So is Povich. We’re not trading any of the big 3. How much does McDermott, Norby, Stowers, plus the rest of our 4-system buy us?  Probably not Logan Webb because of the contract, but I think it buys us Kikuchi, and two rental relievers.
    • The we'd also part was me agreeing to his point about Ryan, even if I thought the salary numbers were high.
    • I think he was talking about Ryan Mountcastle but I can understand the pivot.  It’s like the Elvin Hayes turn around bank shot.  It’s always there when you need it.  😀
    • Suarez minor league deal. Cole Sulser. Cesar Valdez. Jorge Lopez. There's a ton, even if some only work out for one year or so.  I think what happens is people look at this year and the lack of waiver/small trade/minor league deal success stories, which is true. Elias hasn't found that guy on waivers or trades this year... yet.
    • If Urias and/or Mateo are released or traded, then Norby becomes important depth at both 2B and as a right-handed bat on a team with mostly lefty hitters. Norby is certainly a candidate to be traded himself, but I value him significantly more than any of Urias, Mateo, AND Hays, and Elias should as well. Other major league teams would certainly offer more in a trade for Norby than they would for Hays (and certainly also Mateo and Urias). So we should value him similarly. If there are no takers for Norby on the trade market, he has good value to the Orioles' major league roster later this season. Once Mayo is promoted, Norby's ability to play both corner OF spots and 2B with a quality righty bat actually makes him more valuable to this team than any of Mateo, Urias, McKenna, or Hays coming off the bench previously.  An eventual bench of Norby, Mullins as the 4th OF, and Billy Cook would be very strong and versatile. That's the bench of a team with the best offense in baseball, and one that can win a World Series even without a great pitching staff.
