Bowden: Burnes potential suitors including Os

Let’s make a deal: The Orioles certainly have a deep enough farm system to make a trade of this magnitude without having to deal their very best prospects. A package consisting of corner infielder Coby Mayo, left-hander DL Hall, right-hander Chayce McDermottand outfielder Dylan Beavers would probably be close to what it would take to land Burnes. A steep price for a one-year rental, but probably worth it for a strong shot to win it all.

Lol @ "close to what it takes to land Burnes".

This is the problem with having the #1 farm system. Teams only want to raid your top guys, even though the bottom of your top 20 is probably better than their trash top 10. I legitimately think Elias ran into this problem, and I believe he kind of hinted at it with some comments where like... if a team wants another team's top 10 prospect, they don't adjust for the Orioles, you know? The demand is still a top 10 prospect, even though that prospect is miles and miles better than another team's similarly ranked guy.

This isn't other teams talking, it's Bowden.  With the possible exception of the dysfunctional White Sox I haven't heard anything about teams trying to get more from the O's because of their farm system ranking.  That'd be a pretty poor way for the other teams to conduct business, to turn down a strong offer just because the team could give up even more.

I know it's Bowden, I'm just saying. It's similar to what I think other teams are asking of the Orioles, because they know the Orioles have so many guys in the system. I honestly think some of these teams try to get the moon from the Orioles and when they're told no they just find a deal elsewhere because getting some other team's "top 10 guys" feels better than getting the Orioles' "top 15-20 guys", even when our guys would be objectively better prospects. It's dumb, but I actually think this happens to some extent with some teams. Let's not forget that a lot of GMs are pretty bad at their jobs.

I don't think other teams are that stupid.

I'll agree that the initial asks could be higher.

Bowden has lost it. He says we wouldn’t have to deal our very best prospects and immediately starts the proposal with Mayo.

This comment would assume that Bowden once "had it." Anytime I read anything from him or hear him on the radio, it baffles my mind how he was a GM...not once, but twice.

You only give up that much if you think Burnes is the final piece of your World Series puzzle, and even then, I think you need him for at least two years for that return.

Mayo is one of the three guys I would not move unless I was blown away by an offer.

I'd trade Ortiz, McDermott, and say a guy like Haskin or even a wild card like Nunez for him though.
