Elias: Holliday on OD roster is “definitely a strong possibility”

While I don't want to say he's lying,  I just don't buy it.   I expect him to get the Gunnar treatment and still be a qualifying rookie next year.   I'll be shocked if he is on the OD roster.

No way he’s being held back until late August….but I would be surprised if he’s on the OD roster.

Gunnar started had 5 games of AA experience going into 2022. Jackson has 18 games at AAA already. There's no way he'll be held until August unless something goes wrong. They wouldn't have promoted him that quickly if that was their plan.

I'd guess he has a 20% shot of making the team out of spring training, if he shows he's a legit ROY candidate, and more likely comes up in May or June.

People doubting the sincerity of Elias comments need to look at what Jordan Walker did with the Cardinals last pre-season. Going into Spring Training he didn't have a single AB above AA. He wen on to hit .277 with 3 HRs and 9 RBIs (and slugged around .500) and sort of forced their hand. Granted, they ended up briefly demoting him in May, but I think the point remains. If Holliday hits this spring there's a very good chance he forces the team's hand and makes the OD roster.

Elias has been consistent about giving Holliday a chance. He has jumped him up quickly and now he’s talking about how he has a real chance to make the team out of OD and yet people think he’s going to wait about 5 months of the season to bring him up?

"Definitely a strong possibility" means nothing to me. I don't think it will be five months but I don't think it will be opening day, and I don't read anything into Elias's statement.

I don’t think it will be OD either but it’s foolish to ignore what Elias is saying, especially when you combine it with what he did with him in 2023.

For me it has little to do with Holiday, if he is ready or not, or how he performs in Spring training.  It's more about maximizing his value to the organization and ensuring we have him cheaply for as long as possible.  That's why I think we don't really see him until August.  I hope I'm wrong,  but that's what I'm expecting to see.

I get it, but the wrinkle is that they're considered contenders now. I think there will be quite a bit of pressure to put him on the OD roster if he hits this spring...especially if they don't sign any significant FAs this offseason.

Wait until June…gain the extra year and likely don’t lose the year like you did Adley because it’s not which games played.

That’s the best way to maximize his value.

    • I'm guessing that they could solve it this offseason if they want to. It's easy to put up a wall. What's difficult is putting in seating.
    • I think you can read a lot about the way he said things and his emotions while speaking. Just my opinion.
    • I think the opposite, Astro fans have an expectation of success, Oriole fans don't.
    • It could be a boon if you are targeting pitchers that are in a situation in which they need a one year make good deal to rehabilitate their value. Other than that,,,
    • Duh we brought in Kyle Giboson, Jordan Lyles, and Craig Kimbrel
    • The 13 game plan is guaranteed playoff tickets…….if you purchase them.  Since I assume you went through the team and chose your seat and purchased it with a card, you should get it back.   At least for me, my wife and I thought we were going to be moving 30 minutes away from our house, but instead of an hour from Baltimore, it would be 1 hour 45 minutes, so season tickets of any sort didn’t make sense.  I also figured that we would get hit with 4 pm games mid-week to start, so it all just didn’t make sense.   I am also surprised that my rep didn’t reach out to ask why.  I opted in before as a 29 game holder, in 2014, 15 and 16.  I went back to 29 games this year after two seasons with 13, and I’ve been a Birdland member since 2014.  Oh well.  We may be opting back into 13 next year, or not at all.  We will have to see.  My wife will sometimes get tickets from work, and they were always when we had tickets, so it didn’t make sense to take them.
    • That Jimmy Fallon movie was Fever Pitch.  Came out in late 2004 I think, because they had enough time to have the last scene being him and Drew Barrymore on the field in St. Louis celebrating the World Series win.  It actually was a really good movie at the time. But because the Red Sox and their fanbase became completely insufferable beginning with that comeback against the Yankees and carrying all the way through their 4 championships without so much as a loss in the World Series, it is hard for me to still enjoy it. But the underlying premise and that question of what has your favorite team ever done for you definitely resonated and certainly does even more so now with the Orioles.  And for Os fans the answer to that question is over the last 40 years, they haven't done much at all.
