These talking heads and their trade proposals has always looked like complete lunacy to me.

Most of them are, but nobody remembers after 15 minutes so there's no downside risk.

With regards to thinking about offering a contract extension.... I think that's something to let Mike Elias and his team of baseball experts evaluate and then manage to put that in an understandable way of communication to the new ownership so they can weigh the idea.

Real life is alot different than fantasy baseball. It's easy for a simple Baseball observer to see a top player in the league and think he's worth throwing big money at. But there are alot more factors that determine if it's a good long term investment or a mistake. I think that's where Sig and his team can help.  It's important the front office baseball experts that built this team to this level of talent with such a small payroll, have a good communicating relationship with the new owners and earn their trust. That way the new owners understand exactly what the implications are of such large investments for their players. Then they can have productive team discussions to help understand the the pros & cons of offering Burnes a new contract.

We don't want any more bad Chris Davis contracts, but we also don't want to be tight waded penny pinching weasels either. The era of penny pinching needs to come to an end. Make smart investments.

(For the record, when Peter Angelos signed Albert Bell, I did not think it was smart money. I thought it was an over rated signing. When he signed Jimenez, I was like "Who?" Peter started throwing around bad money toward the end and that's one of the reasons I think caused him to become a penny pincher.)  Make good investments. Find the healthy balance.

And find the talent to win a World Series.

To be fair - it's really hard to determine what fair value is for top players. I'm shocked we got Burnes for this package.

Me too.  Elias has a huge advantage, as far as I know he never played fantasy baseball.  😀

All the talk for the last month or so was Burnes was definitely staying put. And then they trade him for a kind of weak package. Weird!

I'm not sure I'd call it a weak package. If Ortiz is a 3 win player that's pretty valuable by itself.

Burnes for DL hall and an expendable player. lol. Elias does it again

Remember midway through last year when some people were claiming Hall was worth nothing? What a turn around for him to be a centerpiece in a trade for one of the best starters in baseball.
