He's going back to Norfolk....its just a matter of time..PLEASE DO NOT TRADE COBY MAYO

You don't need to worry.  They need right-handed power for the future.  He is going nowhere.

I want him on the ML team but I still kind of struggle with figuring out how/when to deploy him.

While I still think he could become a reliable defensive 3B, I'd still like to see what he looks like in RF.

An outfield of Kjerstad/Stowers in LF, Cowser in CF, and Mayo in RF would be about as scary as it gets for pitchers.

Imagine this 2025 lineup:

1. Henderson - SS
2. Rutschman -  C
3. Mayo - RF
4. Kjerstad - DH
5. Westburg - 3B
6. Cowser - CF
7. Mountcastle - 1B
8. Stowers - LF
9. Holliday - 2B

Who the hell do you pitch around? :D

At some point, feels like we have to give his bat a shot with the ML club in 2024... But like you said, i'm not 100% clear how we'd go about it.

That OF configuration - especially when its Kjerstad/Cowser/Mayo - would be scary for OUR pitchers, though!  But yeah, that lineup is crazy good.

I'm in the minority (I think) in that I'd be down w/ a reasonable extension for Santander, so you can add his bat to a 10-man regular rotation, then have Norby, b/u C, and Mateo beyond that.  That's a hell of a positional roster, and you have a little bit of depth in AAA behind that w/ guys like Beavers perhaps (and of course none of this factors in Basallo still, wow).  Santander's switch hitting, along with Adley, really helps w/ lineup flexibility vs match ups - although the lineup you've posted has nice balance as well.

If that lineup is 75% or more of what he hope it is, how good does our pitching have to be?

I wonder if he could comp with the glove to a guy like Alec Bohm? Big dude, not a great defender, but doesn't kill his team and makes some great plays along the way with the glove while mashing with the bat.

And it's young lineup too this isn't the 1996-97 Orioles team that had a limited shelf life and there's more prospects coming up the pipeline.

Side note on Stowers, did someone give him a lifetime supply of Wheaties this year?  His sprint speed went from 27.0 fps in 2022 to 28.4 this year.  I used to wonder if he'd have the range for left field at OPACY but he's kind of gone crazy with the speed training.  He's not the first guy to take a leap on sprint speed so i kind of wonder if the O's are emphasizing this more.

1. I think he was injured last year

2. I also think he’s lighter than last year and carrying 10 or 20 less pounds (or vice versa) around can definitely affect your speed.

It's a great question. I really don't think Stowers was as slow as his first spring speeds. He never seemed that slow in the minors so I was surprised by his original times. Now maybe he did do some speed training to help him improve, but I also think he may not have been 100% when he came up the first time.

But since this is Mayo's thread, I'd be very surprised if he's not activated today back to the Norfolk roster.

They announced his rehab was over and that he would be back in AAA.
