Webb gets hate because of the postseason homers.  Oddly, Hicks still gets hate despite his postseason homer and stats.

We’re just a bunch of haters. 😉

I think Webb was kind of gassed last year by the time the playoffs rolled around. Dude has spotted a 2.40 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 2.90 FIP, 44 K's in 41 IP for us. For a guy that's expected to be like our 5th best bullpen arm you take that every day.

1.40 ERA 265 ERA+ in 21 appearances this season

He has a 2.40 ERA in 46 appearances total with us going back to last year.

Webb is certainly one of the more under rated relievers the Orioles have because he doesn't have that dominant velocity. It's interesting because his fastball velocity and vertical movement are down from last year. His XWOBA .405 on his fastball suggest he's been getting pretty lucky since his WOBA on his fastball is .293. As noted, his velocity is ticking up a bit, but worth noting as good as he's been, he is overperforming a bit.

I think Webb made two bad pitches in the playoffs.

Felix Bautista's 2023 season ended on 8/25 during an appearance that was his 3rd in 4 games, though entering that night he had also only thrown 28 game pitches in the preceding 10 days.

The Orioles clinched the AL East on 9/28; Webb was off that night as Hyde used DL Hall, Cano, Cionel and Tyler Wells to help Dean Kremer complete beating Chris Sale.

From 8/26 to 9/27, both Webb and DL Hall made 15 appearances to number among MLB's top 10 at winning time.    Leclerc, Clase and Tanner Scott were a few of the others in the Top 10 during that span.

Hall 260, Webb 228, Fujinami 195, Coulombe 158, Lopez 152, Cano 143, Cionel 140 was the distribution during that first month of adapting to No Felix life.

Webb continues to have a very strong season.   30.2 IP, 1.76 ERA, 1.076 WHIP, 7.9 K/9, 1.9 K/BB.  He’s inherited 15 runners and only 2 have scored.  In his last 8 appearances he has not allowed a run and has stranded 8 inherited runners.  He’s certainly been much better than I’d expected.

Where would we be without him? Good thing we didn't non-tender him like many people wanted. Hopefully we don't run him straight into the ground like we did last year.

Gotta admit I was skeptical of Webb early in the year, particularly when his stuff was noticeably slower and not as sharp (may have just been typical end of spring training “dead arm” period).  He looked like DFA candidate to be honest.  But he gutted thru with gile, started to lean on the changeup and his FB began to tick upward in velo.  According to Stuff+ Webbs changeup this year rates as best pitch at 119 (was only 89 last year), and per savant, it’s generating 36% WHIFF%, and BA allowed is just a minuscule .097 against the change.  His FB velo has gone from 91-92 at start of the year to more consistently 94mph with a few 95mph sprinkled in too.  And what I particularly enjoy is how Webb seems to feature a different pitch each outing (and sometimes batter to batter), getting Ks on changeup, rising fastball, and sometimes on sweeper.
