Jacob Webb 2024

I am promoting Webb to thread status.

Two dominant outings against the Yankees this week. 2.2 IP, no baserunners, 6 K's. And in only 28 pitches across the two games.

His ERA is now below 2. I'm not sure he's really that good, but I think he has one of the most secure spots in the pen right now.

Hell of a series for him!

I always thought folks were too hard on him at the end of last year. He got overused and tired out, but he saved our bullpen when we acquired him. He's got good stuff and he's been clutch so far.

He’s having a start to the season like Baker had last year. Webb is very underrated. “Everyday Webby”. Gotta thank the Angels for that gift.

Ha.  I had to check.  You’re right.  Baker had a great April.  It all went downhill when he started doing that backwards walk to celebrate.

Great job by Webb in this series.   It’s not like he faced a bunch of patsies, either.  In his Friday 4-out save he got Judge/Stanton/Rizzo/Torres.  Then last night he got Judge/Rizzo/Torres/Verdugo.

If I had bet on how Webb would have done with those matchups,  I would have lost.

I'd rather a thread by Roy saying that we should cut him now. The reverse jinx works both ways, so I think this thread is a biiiiiig mistake.

That said, he was so good this series. Love that for him.

On a broader point, this org does something right that's beyond the talent in the room. I assume it's advance scouting our opponents and preparation, but we're a step above.

I don't know what got into him. I wonder if he made an adjustment or someone helped "fix" something..

I also loved his post game interview after the save. I was ready to DFA him after the playoffs but he's showing something. I'm back on the Webbster bandwagon

I assume you're talking about about the 3-2 fastball that got hit for a grand slam, it was the 3 batters before that Baker walked and not even being competitive, that was the low point of the season for Me. It was Baker that put him in a Jackpot.

He also gave up a solo homer in the first game.  I agree, the grand slam was 95% on Baker for loading the bases without getting an out and forcing Webb in the game. I can forgive Webb for that one.

    • Elias loves him some veteran presence.  Frazier, Odor.  They will go out of their way to use old people whenever they can and not use the future until they have no other choice.  Its just what they do.  They always will fall back on "love the way they turn the double play"  which is code for "yeah they suck but we are using them no matter what".  With Odor you could respect it a little because he knocked Bautista in the mouth and who can not love that?
    • His birthday is Sep.27.     I don’t consider September 27 to be rapidly approaching.
    • Not sure what you mean?  We are not going to win a WS with players like Hayes, Mullins, Urias etc.   I think that is obvious.   What am I missing here?
    • I cannot blame any athlete for being inconsistent if you are only getting 1 or 2 bats every few days.  No one can get into a rhythm doing that.  Whether you play baseball or are a QB or play tennis or bowling.   His minor league numbers have been more than stellar.......so for heavens sake play him.  He is what...25?  Are the Os going to wait until he is 28? Pretty ridiculous when you think about the number of players in the majors who are younger than him.   And don't even get me started on Mayo.   I love Elias.  Want him to be with the Os for a long time.  But he is starting to remind me Chris Ballard with the Colts.  Both are great students of the game and judges of talent, but just so so conservative.   It drives the Colts fans like me crazy, and it is starting to drive the O's fans, like me.....crazy.
    • I get the respect the team has for the starting OF. They were here for, and were all keys to, the Orioles becoming relevant again. My hope was they could play well enough to get to the ASB so they could ride off to the proverbial sunset gracefully and let the youngsters come up. But it's not even June and Hays and Mullins are under .200 and Tony is barely above.  I'm not sure what to do.
    • It’s a SSS with sporadic playing time. Nothing can be taken from those numbers.
