Fun fact: the Tides game was suspended last night in the bottom of the 9th, tie game, 2 on, 2 out, Kyle Stowers at the plate.

Kind of poetic. In limbo organizationally and in the game on the eve of the deadline.

The Rangers ended July going 2-7, were 60-46 and 1 game up in the division. Their bullpen was terrible, DeGrom was lost for the year, their rotation was pretty unspectacular (Perez, Eovaldi, Heaney). They trade for Jordan Montgomery and Scherzer though and go on a run and never look back.

You are really stretching to confirm your narrative. Sure, two arms would have been nice and a few folks advocated for it. We don't know what kind of constraints Elias was operating under but I am guessing he did not have the budget to spend $20M on the bullpen prior to the ownership change. We went into the season with a really solid bullpen but we lost a key guy in Coulombe. Now we have to replace him. Maybe Elias should have anticipated losing Coulombe but most teams with any resource constraints don't go into a season with seven high leverage arms. 

As it is we already added Seranthony and I would be surprised if we don't get more. Even Stevie Wonder can see that trading for pitching was part of the plan.

They went 30-26 the rest of the way and lost the division.  Scherzer didn’t pitch in the first two rounds then had a 9.45 ERA in the LCS and pitched 3 innings in the World Series.

I think Crochet stays...based on his usage comments the other day.  I don't think anyone in a playoff race is going to want someone who's priority is innings limits.

A fine narrative but not really true. They lost 8 in a row in August, 7 out of 8 in September, and limped into the playoffs by losing 3 of 4 and needing to take the wild card.

Ok I shouldn't have said "never looked back", point was they had their share of problems (probably more than we do).

A question about Crochet:  if the O's and Sox agreed on an offer, would the O's have an opportunity to negotiate an extension before the trade becomes official?  

It seems that Crochet is more likely to be traded today than Snell or Skubal, but I can't imagine making that trade without having an extension in place.

The Marlins are reportedly closing in on a Trevor Rogers trade and multiple teams are involved, including the Mets.

Hopefully the Orioles are one of them.

Is the appeal of Rogers basically the 2 years of control? His peripherals don't look great.

It's the control and the idea that a more comtetent organization could potentially fix/unlock him.
