I don't see how the fact that Povich was really terrible yesterday improves the chances that he'll pitch well against the NYYs. When the NYYs were rolling earlier in the season, they were getting off to a hot start with Volpe/Soto/Judge/Stanton getting on base and scoring. They lead MLB (by a small margin) in first-inning runs scored. Povich managed to emulate that with walks and a homer in the first inning against the A's, and he put the game out of reach pretty quickly. If I were using Povich against the NYYs, I would consider using an opener to face the top of the lineup -- not that we have anyone who's ideally suited for that role and is expendable for that game. There's a good chance we'll be competing with the NYYs for the division championship. I think there's significant value in winning the division rather than a wildcard spot. So there's a good chance that games against the NYYs are worth two games, both in the division race and the potential tie-breaker in that race. I don't understand why you would line up your pitching so that, after series with two weak teams, you're starting Povich and not starting Burnes against the NYYs. -

I bet a huge majority of ML players should be platoon guys, it’s just that most aren’t treated that way. -

Possible. As I have been saying, in these types of larger deals, there is almost always a ML Player going back in the deal. Urias makes sense as that player for many teams and in many deals. -

If the Rangers want MLB pieces, I wonder if Urias could be interesting as a fit for them as a bench guy? He is controllable for 2 years after this one. They obviously have stars in their infield with Semien, Seager, Jung, and Josh Smith is having an out of nowhere great year, but depth is always valuable. Smith is definitely a plus utility guy now, so maybe Urias is not that interesting for them, but it seems Smith can also play the OF and hasn’t played much 2B. I don’t think Urias is a primary piece in a trade or have all that much trade value, but maybe the Rangers could be a fit if they are focused just on retooling for 2025.
