100 XBHs in a season's worth of games is good, right?

It's decent, at best. :P LOL! Pretty crazy, right?  Once again, the RF thing is still being considered by those outside the organization.  I, for one, am in favor of them trying him out there to see how well he can adapt to it.

A strong arm in RF and less room to cover at Camden Yards? That could be a thing.

A bold move that won’t happen but I’d be thinking about moving O’Hearn to a team like Cincy or Pitt for pitching help and open up the DH spot for Kjerstad.  O’Hearn has some of the best at bats on the team but, in the end, he’s good not great.  I think we could get some bullpen help from teams that are hurting for offense from 1B.

I would be very sad if O'Hearn were to be moved. He's been one of the best hitters in baseball this year IMHO.

We've given Urias and Mateo 282 ABs this year of combined sub .700 OPS production. I'd like to give all of those ABs in the 2nd half to Mayo.

Mayo at 3b, Westy at 2b with Mateo super utility? Why doesn't that work?

Because Holliday will be up..and then what?  Guys have to be moved.

Seems like Holliday isn't going to be up for at least a month or more. He hasn't seemed to have recovered his form since his demotion. Are we sure he's going to be ready to contribute this year at the major league level or is it possible he needs all of 2024 for development?

If Holliday makes it clear he's ready before the end of July, I like moving Mounty at the trade deadline, putting O'hearn at first base and then using either Mayo or Westburg at DH whenever the other is at 3b.

We don’t know how long he will be out of the field. I agree that matters a lot.  But when he’s ready, he’s going to be up.

That works.  I also think we need to find everyday AB for Kjerstad.   Cowser in LF, Mullins in CF, Santander in RF, is the best defensive alignment and the most likely to get the most AB.  As great as O’Hearns AB are the amount of actual damage is good, not great.   Just a thought.  We have a club option on O’Hearn with Santander headed for FA so I doubt he’s going anywhere.   On further thought we should probably just hold onto O’Hearn.  Lol

I think, Holliday stays at AAA until you think, without risking another demotion, he can do for the top of your line-up similar to what Kwan does for Cleveland. You are not bringing him up for his defense - you have that in Mateo. We can always use a consistent table setter, however. I hope, Holliday becomes Kwan like and maybe even better. That would be a heck of an outcome. Mayo looks primed now. And, we could use that right-handed bat. Urias appears the likely casualty. I've come to the point where I'd even DFA Urias to make that happen.

Mateo is hitting .728.

No way we don't exercise O'Hearn's option.  I have my blinders ready for the junk that'll be said.

    • Right, why not just do the prudent thing and look at the larger sample sizes? See the upward trend? It's pretty nice.
    • https://www.baseballamerica.com/rankings/2024-top-mlb-draft-prospects/   Baseball America says Brecht too.
    • Fair enough. I simply looked at the most recent two weeks or 14 games I think (which aside from 1 game are quite underwhelming). I didn't look beyond that. Hopefully he heats back up. Two weeks is already a small enough sample size. I'm sure I could find another mediocre week but I don't really care to go tit for tat with endless cherry picking.
    • Maybe the Orioles could trade Norby as part of a package to the Mariners to land a pitcher. I don't think the Mariners are going to be eager to part with any established veteran pitchers, but Elias might as well do his due diligence and ask.
    • If you start penciling in our top prospects into 2025 and 2026 lineups it starts to look stupid good. One of the problems with trading HUGE prospects for players with a couple of years of control is the price tag to keep them. So we have to pay a huge prospect burden just to pay a huge salary. A replacement for the prospect adds a cost and the extension of the SP adds a cost. Personally, I would hold on to the top prospects and trade from the rest. If I did trade a top guy I would want 3+ years of team control on that SP. But... if Bradish and Kremer are not hurt, we are not having this conversation IMO. We are adding a reliever or two and maybe a RH bat.
    • So if we're being honest he had one bad week, right? The last 7 days are included in the last two weeks.
    • The question was asked somewhere of the Rangers fans, whether they were fine with a terrible season this year if they won the World Series last season. The answer is of course yes it’s OK to have a terrible season in the year after winning a World Series, especially given that that’s exactly what is happening now. I would like to be the Cardinals or the Rays, who have an excellent team every single year, avoid stupid free agent contracts, trade wisely, spend wisely, and draft very well.  With that in mind, as long as as we don’t empty our Farm for rentals, or do stupid Davies-for-Parra trades in a “win everything this season and damn the future,” attitude, I don’t care. When the Jesuit missionaries discovered how to get quinine, which cures and prevents malaria, from the bark of the Chinchona tree, they always planted five trees, in the shape of a cross, for every one they harvested for its bark. So, whoever we trade, we have to acquire quality and quantity replacements for whomever is departing. With that guideline in mind, I don’t care who they trade.
