Lately, the offense really DOES suck

Not to mention, with Mounty out, OHearn and Jimenez have to play everyday…or McCann is getting those at bats.

The Kjerstad situation sucks for so many reasons but Mayo should be up here. Unfortunately no one else is really knocking on the door but Mayo could help.

Bring Mayo up and start him on Monday.

Having him ease back into things against the WS and at home is a good way to do it.

He will not reach the 45 day threshold or the 130 at bats, so he will still be ROY eligible for 2025.

Thats fine..if they want him to get into games in a Colorado, im good with that.  I was more thinking logistically.

The Os continue to play Mayo at 3rd though, which continues to be an incredibly short sighted and just not smart move.

We have a clear first base need right now.

It sucks to acknowledge but this team just isn’t good. Offense sucks, the pitching sucks, the defense sucks. It’s been this way for more than 2 months. Injuries have played a big part, but the guys who were carrying us in the first half of the season are still here and they’ve been terrible. Gunnar, Adley, Burnes, Kimbrel have all seen dramatic decreases in their performance. Combine that with the injuries and this team just isn’t good at all. Feels like 2016 all over again.

If there really is a chance Rubenstein increases the payroll this offseason, and outside of clear pitching needs, what 1B free agent would be a good fit on the roster?

It's incredible just how differently I feel about the team than I did in May. Almost polar opposite.

You don’t spend on a first baseman. That is where Mayo will play. He can’t play third for this team unless the Os do something that they have shown zero inclination of doing.

You have a rotation in which you don’t feel good about anybody any given game. Aside from Suarez, who has been great for a month, who gives you any confidence? Burnes has been atrocious, Povich is an inconsistent rookie, Irvin has been good for 2 starts but was abysmal for a month the last time he was in the rotation, and Kremer (while solid lately) has been bad most of the year.

The thing is…even with how awful Gunnar, Adley, Santander have been, this rotation doesn’t give them any room for error. Game 2 was a winnable game, but Burnes and the defense screwed the pooch.

The defense has been bad since Mateo and Westy went down. I don’t know if that’s because Gunnar now feels he needs to be spectacular everywhere to make up for a clunky offense and defense, but it’s mighty telling that there is absolute nothing that this club does well any longer.

The bullpen? Mediocre

The offense? Mediocre

The defense? Bad

The rotation? Bad/mediocre

That’s not a playoff club. I’ve been saying it for weeks. Even if they make the playoffs, they’re a first round knockout.

It is not a given that he can play First.  He has not yet shown that he can.

Pretty much. The O’s have shown that they don’t think 1B is a position that is important when it comes to defense. Why else would they give Santander and Urias reps there? Their thought is that it is something that is a fallback position for guys that can’t stick it elsewhere and/or to make them more defensively flexible to the club.

He also hasn't shown that he can hit ML pitching. Maybe if he performs similar to Cowser this year. Not spectacular but still providing overall value.

There's no doubt that injuries killed this team. Maybe a team like the Dodgers who are heavy with vet stars can, but we can't. Combine that with the fact that the majority of our young core have been struggling mightily and right now this team about as fun to watch as our 100 loss teams. Back then we had no expectations. Now we do, so seeing this pathetic offense is beyond painful.

And it's clear that this team is pressing, big time. Lots of somber faces in the dugout. Hopefully these next two series can help turn things around.
