it was the last series of a historically miserable year, it was a chance for a very proud Boston Name to have a chance to play in front of the Boston people, so there was no reason not to promote Mike. It would’ve been a very nice moment in a season of very, very few nice moments.

Regarding your other question, though, I do think that Buck was probably the main guy in making the decision based on the fact that he had a huge hand in bringing Chris Tillman back and guaranteeing him $3 million even though he couldn’t throw anymore.

But as I said, I don’t know whether it was Dan or Buck who had the final say, and that was seven years ago, and both guys have been replaced, so all that remains are two splendid players who are working for somebody else.

As a fan I still find it annoying that both players went on to be stars for other teams when they could easily have been successful for us.
