If you were in charge...

If you were in charge, how much would players make?

Let's not turn this into socialism vs. free-enterprise thing. Let's just stick to the question.

Actually, there are 10 questions:

1. How much should a MiL player make?

2. How much should a ML rookie make?

3. How much should a marginal, journeyman make (utility guy, 7th-bullpen guy, backup C, 5th OFer, etc)?

4. How much should a "so-so" everyday player or SP or decent BP guy make?

5. How much should a really good player who's not a superstar make?

6. How much should a superstar make?

7. How much should an owner make?

8. How much should a ticket cost (Box/Upper reserved/Bleacher)?

9. How much should a beer/hot dog cost?

10. Should there be FA? If so, should the time-frame be any different?

Isn't that the very crux of this issue, though? I mean, I could say that teachers would make more money than entertainers if I were in charge, but that doesn't necessarily make it realistic under our economic system.

For example, If I were in charge, hot dogs would be free because I like hot dogs, but in reality they should be priced where they will maximize profit.

BTW, I really am trying to understand this question better, not trying to derail your intended discussion...

An interesting question...

1. Obviously there are different levels of minor leaguers - but average salary of 50k.

2. ML Rookie: $125,000

3. Replacement Level Vet: $275,000

4. So-So: $500,000

5. Good Player $1.5 Million

6. Superstar $5 Million

7. Owner: Owners should always be working in the best interest of the fans. I'm not sure their should be expectations of "salary." A well-run team will increase in value.

8. Ticket: Bleacher: $5, UD: $10, Box: $35

9. Hot Dog: $1.50, Beer: $3.50

10. I'll try and come back to FA later.

It's obviously very difficult to get to hard numbers without discussing the economics behind it, so these are just numbers that seem palatable to me.

I'm just asking your opinion about, if the world made sense, and thing weren't complicated and extreme and crazy, what seems right to you?

For example, you might like free hot dogs, but you wouldn't expect them.

For another example, many people might agree that ARod deserves a whole bunch of money, but maybe not $30 million per year forever.

I'm just asking what "seems about right" to you, that's all.

OK, I'll try

1. How much should a MiL player make? $50k

2. How much should a ML rookie make? $150k

3. How much should a marginal, journeyman make (utility guy, 7th-bullpen guy, backup C, 5th OFer, etc)? $300k

4. How much should a "so-so" everyday player or SP or decent BP guy make? $5-7 million for everyday player, $2-3 million for BP guy

5. How much should a really good player who's not a superstar make? $8-10 million

6. How much should a superstar make? $11-20 million

7. How much should an owner make? Whatever marginal profits he/she can get, plus appreciation of franchise value. (Total $10-$100 million per year seems about right depending on market size).

8. How much should a ticket cost (Box/Upper reserved/Bleacher)? $75/$25/$15

9. How much should a beer/hot dog cost? $2, $5

10. Should there be FA? If so, should the time-frame be any different? Yes, and the time-frame is fine with me.
