Zrebiec: At impasse with LaRoche; turning attention to Lee

If someone else pays him 3/24, or more, then AM will have made a very good non-move.

I think MacPhail is banking that Lee is there for the taking, and he's gonna be very dissapointed when Laroche signs elsewhere for the salary he wants, and Lee is just waiting to see what he gets to determine how much the Nats will need to pay him.

Funny how things have seemed to work out this offseason. We're close to trading Reimold for Bartlett, all of a sudden we get Hardy for two forgettable relief prospects. Looked like we were about to sign LaRoche to a three year deal, all of a sudden we turn our attention to Lee on what will be a one or two year deal if we sign him.

Lock it up before Christmas Andy. Be Santa Claus for us Oriole fans.

would you care to make a wager he doesnt get that contract if the O's get Lee.

100%. But cannot bet money. I'll be in the standing room only with a beer of your choice, and a crabcake for you if I'm wrong. Guys, Laroche had solid numbers last year, no way he plays for the silly figures I've heard thrown around. I won't raise it, or lower it. Laroche will sign either here, or somewhere else for a minimum of 3/24. Bank on it. You can choose the game, but I'm safe with this bet every day of the week

Where is this elsewhere if Washington signs Lee? The Padres? It seems like LaRoche's agent is getting greedy yet again, trying to play the Orioles and Nationals against each other and is failing miserably.

This is a good move. Unfortunately, I think it's all posturing to break the impasse with LaRoche.

Fine by me if it means LaRoche accepts a MacPhail contract. One thing I give credit to MacPhail on is he is a master debater! :D

As for LaRoche, screw him! I was an advocate for him, and he is now gonna turn his nose up at a 3 year deal worth around 20 million? Are you kidding me? If, God willing, we somehow end up with Lee, LaRoche is gonna have to accept whatever deal the Nats throw at him, or else he'll be getting peanuts to play for San Diego. I'm starting to really dislike this LaRoche character!!!!

"Yeah, like he underbid for Tex"?

I'm willing to give you more chances, in my own mind, to be a contributing member, as you claim to want. However, you need to actually show improvement.

Making illogical points in your posts will not help that. Do you really not understand the difference between Adam LaRoche and Mark Teixeira?

I really doubt anyone in the league will give him 3 years (except us) and not at 8 per. I think he is making sure someone outside the AL east isnt still interested before he concedes and comes to Baltimore. Its all pretty sad to me. LaRoche isnt the missing piece we need. Hes a solid player that would fill a gaping hole.

If Lee signs wth Texas or the Pads then LaRoche has the hammer with both the Gnats and the O's bidding for him. That's what he's waiting for. If Lee signs with the Gnats then LaRoche has to take what AM offers or or take a lot less in $$ and years from the Pads or Rays, etc. Lee is holding out to see if Texas has an interest. If Lee is a real option for the O's why haven't they been on him already. He makes much more sense than LaRoche. What were they thinking if they preferred LaRoche....:scratchchinhmm:

I will try to improve. In short, I do not think that an offer was made to Tex that they actually thought he would take. It was fair yes, but they had to know that for him to come here, that they had to do more than the next team. We underbid.

Yes, I know the diffrence between the quality of player you'd be getting from Tex, opposed to Laroche. I'm just so determined to not be watching Cantu or Russell Branyan that I'm almost ready to bust.

My rep here is already in the toilet, so improving that will be a task, but I'm a true O's fan, and I'm willing to try. If I can brave the cold for overnights at the warehouse for bleacher seats, I can surely, in the comfort of my own home, try to give a logical view, opposed to one a 3 year old could provide.

I want to start by saying that I am not a big fan of the new stats that rate a player, so although you guys might have to bear with me using older stats (even though they might not tell the entire picture), they are ones that still can determine good from bad, and I feel more comfortable using them. There's nothing wrong with using batting averages to rate consistency, HR's to judge power, and RBI's to show hitting in the clutch. I'll try to absorb a little more of what is laid out as useful knowledge.

    • Elias loves him some veteran presence.  Frazier, Odor.  They will go out of their way to use old people whenever they can and not use the future until they have no other choice.  Its just what they do.  They always will fall back on "love the way they turn the double play"  which is code for "yeah they suck but we are using them no matter what".  With Odor you could respect it a little because he knocked Bautista in the mouth and who can not love that?
    • His birthday is Sep.27.     I don’t consider September 27 to be rapidly approaching.
    • Not sure what you mean?  We are not going to win a WS with players like Hayes, Mullins, Urias etc.   I think that is obvious.   What am I missing here?
    • I cannot blame any athlete for being inconsistent if you are only getting 1 or 2 bats every few days.  No one can get into a rhythm doing that.  Whether you play baseball or are a QB or play tennis or bowling.   His minor league numbers have been more than stellar.......so for heavens sake play him.  He is what...25?  Are the Os going to wait until he is 28? Pretty ridiculous when you think about the number of players in the majors who are younger than him.   And don't even get me started on Mayo.   I love Elias.  Want him to be with the Os for a long time.  But he is starting to remind me Chris Ballard with the Colts.  Both are great students of the game and judges of talent, but just so so conservative.   It drives the Colts fans like me crazy, and it is starting to drive the O's fans, like me.....crazy.
    • I get the respect the team has for the starting OF. They were here for, and were all keys to, the Orioles becoming relevant again. My hope was they could play well enough to get to the ASB so they could ride off to the proverbial sunset gracefully and let the youngsters come up. But it's not even June and Hays and Mullins are under .200 and Tony is barely above.  I'm not sure what to do.
    • It’s a SSS with sporadic playing time. Nothing can be taken from those numbers.
