Its still stupid...but their are varying degrees of stupidity. This is on the lower end of that but at the end of the day, it wasn't a neccassary signing and we still don't know who gets taken off the 40 man.

Fwiw, I really do no like this signing but it's not the end of the world. I'm hoping we have some blockbuster trade in the works to thin out the MLB bodies and beef up our system. I doubt it though.

Next thing you know, the Orioles will petition MLB to allow them to install two additional pitching mounds and replace any two players on the field with two additional pitchers. Only one pitcher can throw the ball, of course, but the batter won't know which pitcher is going to throw.

Surely there are better uses of $7 million dollars. Gerardo Concepcion signed with the Cubs for about $7 mil. Does $7 mil get us in the ballgame with J. Solar? Maybe these aren't best moves or they wouldn't sign with the O's but there must be other uses for $7 mil than replacement level relievers.

That's my take. Every year they go out and sign one reliever for $7M, and more often than not he's terrible. This year they signed four guys for that, and half that total was for a throw in to make the Guthrie/Hammel deal a financial wash for the Rockies. You could say they got Lindstrom for free, and traded Hammel for Guthrie straight up.

Marginal salary, excellent point. Even if your pen was seven random guys from Norfolk who have no business in a major league uniform that costs you about $3M.
