I am sensitive to it having been a Little League umpire. When I was a kid in Little League, there was an old man who umpired for years. If any manager, coach or parent in the stand would object in any argumentative way, he would stop the game, and require the offending person and all players to loudly recite the Little League pledge.

I trust in God

I love my country

And will respect its laws

I will play fair

And strive to win

But win or lose

I will always do my best

He was a legend. Never had an argument after the first time of the season when some manager or parent wouldn't know him. And I remember the pledge by heart to this day.

Sounds like he couldn't take criticism even if he was doing an awful job. Talk about being on the ultimate power trip. But no I don't coach little league I coach high level travel ball. I've been run from my fair share of ball games.

I have no doubt you have been. You do understand that Little League umpires are unpaid volunteers, right? He was an excellent umpire who also had life lessons for control freak, narcissist coaches and parents. .
