Good grief guys. Dark Helmet's link/reference about the 5/75 offer is from a reporter from the Seattle Times. Yes, it's "rumored". Nobody knows or sure what actually happened ether way. Why's he taking so much grief? Somebody has facts about what actually happened I guess?

It's ok. I guess I shouldn't have worded it like it was a certainty. I thought I remembered a story his preference was to not play on the west coast, and that's why he was hesitant to sign the deal. That may be wrong. I can't prove that.

Funny that. Ortiz is the new Barry Bonds. He will continue to be ageless until he gets busted. Horrible comparison to anybody.

I've always felt the same way you do, though it's also true that Ortiz was dealing with some wrist issues during a part of 2008-09 that hampered him, so it may not be purely a case of age-related decline that reversed itself through miracles of modern science.

And he had that Achilles thing. He is still a user in Dominca.

DD appears to have gauged the FA market of Nick and Nelson right. 3/45 for Nelson in about as high as a team can reasonably go without a gross overpayment.

Nick for 4 years will keep other teams at bay.

That is not to say that some team(s) will not overpay but DD has positioned the O's on the highest side on reasonable that could be expected. JMO

Seattle is the only team that I have seen mentioned that might offer Cruz a 4 year contract. However, things might be changing.

Over the past few days the Justin Upton to the Mariners trade for Taijuan Walker trade has resurfaced. That same trade was discussed two years ago when Upton was traded by the D'backs to Atlanta. Atlanta's new GM John Hart is rebuilding the Braves and has already traded Heyward for Shelby Miller. Many sports outlets have picked up the Upton to Seattle trade rumor.

Of course if Upton going to Seattle it gives them the righthanded power hitter they are looking for and lessen the change they will offer Cruz 4 years. That could mean Cruz comes back to the O's on a three deal.

Just following the trade rumor mill.

If Seattle wants Cruz for four years a 17M per good luck to them.

Hanley Ramirez or Nelson Cruz? That seems to be the $50M+ question. It seems though, according to recent reports that the club actually prefers to land Cruz over signing Ramirez. Just keep in mind that there were several times last year where the Mariners were “not in on Robinson Cano” as well.

Thanks for posting these articles. I enjoyed all three.

Now if I only knew which way the Mariners were headed I could understand what the O's chances are of signing Cruz.

Mariners have also stated they have a "Don't sign a PED" user policy. Will they go against their own publicly admitted morals?

Any link to that. I've never heard a team come out and say that publicly?

I'd love to see the Orioles bring Cruz back, but if someone wants to give him four years at $17 million, I'd thank him for the great year and wish him well.
