Yea for pitching wins colouring rational thought!

The poster misinterpreted what Buck said. No need to get hard on Buck for it. ANd Wright very well may be sent down at this point. It's not a yoyo when you just pitched your first game. After just being added to the 40 man roster last year.

I wonder if the board consensus, including myself, regarding him being a future closer wasn't a bit premature. I like his varying speeds with the FB which seems to allow him the ability to dial up added velocity when he needs it in certain counts. His secondaries look to be effective enough to work off the FB if not plus pitches, but he throws strikes with them.

Yes, it's one start, but is anyone pining for more Bud after that?

He was hitting 97 after 7 innings of work.. I think we should give him the chance to start. Like Gausman, I don't get wanting to anoint untested pitchers as a closer until we know for sure they are failed starters.

Mike Wright showed why he gets to fail as a starter today.

I'm fine with Wright getting sent down. I am not fine with Norris' win total from last season being the reason.

Get traded to the Padres or the Mariners. Norris was never a bullpen arm. He could absolutely request a move if he is not being used there.

With Norris gone at the end of the year and probably not receiving a QO, I hope he comes back, makes a few very good starts and we flip him. We have enough starters that we should try to shop him if he returns and does well.

I am NOT fine with Wright being sent down. You don't get sent down after a performance like this. He earned the right for one more start. If this guy is for real, he may have just saved the Orioles' season.

Even if Buck spoke it as wins, I think you might agree that the totality of his year last year gives him currency with Buck. And rightly so.

He's got options, something you can't say for a lot of the pitching staff. I would prefer if Norris went on the DL and Wright got another shot.

    • I think at this point its just semantics regarding what a successful deadline looked like.  Elias upgraded three positions - SP, 2 RP.  Could there have been bigger upgrades?  Sure, at a bigger cost.  I think it was sufficient.  What has killed the team is the hitting.  If this team had hit like its capable of, and Soto, Eflin, and Dominguez all pitched exactly as they have, we'd all be feeling a lot better about the team, and probably lauding Elias for those three pickups and what a great boost they were at the deadline.  But we aren't hitting - at all - and I don't know what he could have done at the deadline to fix that. Already agreed that the draft strategy must evolve. I don't agree it was a bad strategy to do what they did so far, but it does have to evolve, just as the organization as a whole has evolved.  And I think it will.
    • I don't mean this as any kind of personal slight toward you. Please do not take this as such. But people/fans showed how they felt about this team who has been a loser for almost 4 months. And largely continued to hedge (beyond the Eflin addition) at the deadline. I bet you who did not have a bunch of empty seats for their playoff game yesterday .... San Diego. IMO it is because of the effort that they put in to continue to engage the fanbase. You can't sell people on the "homegrown" stars idea and no need to add a lot of outside talent. And then some of those "homegrown stars" who were so hyped flop. And then not extend the ones who turn into stars. That communicates a lack of investment by the org. Now when you add that up in the economy/2024 inflation and combine that with all of the other entertainment choices that people have in 2024; things like this will happen. Empty seats during a playoff game = an unengaged/unexcited fan base. The org has to own much of this.
    • I’m getting Gunnar as many PA’s as possible.    Gunnar Westburg O’Hearn Santander Mullins Mountcastle Rutschman Cowser Urias
    • I agree with the idea of stacking lefties in the lineup but O'Hearn scares me at 1st.  One misplay on a ball in the dirt and that may be the game.   I am one also that wouldn't mind seeing Holiday in the lineup as the DH.  We need people to get on base and he started tapping into that ability at the end of the season.
    • Without looking, I bet your holiday was worse
    • Mullins should absolutely Lead Off Today. Keep westburg 2nd then Gunnar, Tony, O'hearn, Adley, Cowser, Kjerstad, Holliday. Try to jump these guys early.
