Down on the farm, Triple-A Norfolk left-hander Cesar Cabral, who appeared in 12 games with the Yankees over the past two seasons before signing a minor league deal with the Orioles over the winter, has turned in seven scoreless appearances to begin his Tides career. He's allowed only four baserunners in seven innings, holding opponents to a .120 average (3-for-25) with seven strikeouts. Left-handers are 0-for-7 against him.

Seven innings, and lefties are 0-for-7 against him in AAA? What kind of crazy, half-baked organization wouldn't have him pitching important innings in the majors right now?!

In 2014, lefties hit .273 off him and he walked 7 in 2 and two-third innings in AAA. Of course that was in 2 2/3 innings. AA lefties hit .256 of him in 10 IP. Then again, if we're going to use SSS, in six PAs against the best left-handed hitters in the world Matusz has allowed just a single and lefty batters are OPSing .333 of him. In 2014, in 122 PAs, the best left-handed batters in the world slashed .223/.277/.350/.626 off Brian Matusz. Not dominant, but pretty good and good enough to not lose his job to a 26-year old left-hander with a career 7.71 major league league ERA in 4.2 IPs who's off to a good start against AAA batters in a small sample size.

He was definitely being funny and point taken. However, Cabral deserves watching. He had TJ surgery in 2012 and missed the whole season. He was pretty bad last year. Still, if he shows good command at AAA, he's probably going to get a look this season or next.

You can never have enough good arms!
