Crow doesn't taste so bad.

Here I stand before by OH brethren. I proudly proclaimed that there was no way we were going to make the playoffs. I insinuated that those of you who believed such were delusional. I was begging for a sale ... a full-blown bargain basement sidewalk sale of every FA that we have.

Well, here we are tied for the Wild Card spot. We still may not make the playoffs, but WE DO stand a chance. We've climbed the hill and find ourselves looking down at the unfortunate. We are now in the driver's seat.

I stand before my OH brethren today - eating my crow. It doesn't taste bad, because I'd rather see us win and make the playoffs than be right about us losing.

Go O's!

We've got an awful long way to go. Its still going to be a dogfight just to get in.

Yes, but we have at least given ourselves the chance now. When we were looking up at five teams for the last Wild Card spot I didn't see how we were going to do it.

Yes, it's a long way to go. But Orioles have a few things going for them.

1) Twins look bad again.

2) Orioles have 2 games in hand then the Blue Jays.

3) Orioles doing their west coast run against teams that have been struggling.

Orioles are in a good position now. Winning 8 of the last 10 and hitting the west coast when the A's, M's and Angels are stinking it up.. is a great thing. We come back 6-3 from the West Coast.. Orioles are gonna be golden.

Absolute truth.

However, I love the idea of a fighting chance (The Alamo?) vs. being the walking dead, giving up an entire season like the Tigers just did. For so many years, as "sellers", it didn't buy us Jack Squat. Now, we've got multiple years in a row where the playoffs are no longer a pipe dream, but reality.

The August De Aza deal last year gave us a nice boost. Hopefully, there is another pleasant surprise this year that we can look back on years from now that "was the turning point"

The last time the Orioles were in the world series, I was in basic training at Lackland AFB. If you would have told me then that the O's would not sniff another WS for 30+ years, I would have referred you for drug testing.

Yet here we are. We've got a window, now find a freaking rock and break it!

No need to eat crow, but I appreciate your sentiment.

All I and others ask is that when things aren't going so well, hang in there and realize its a long season. There are too many who as soon as we hit a rough road are ready to pat themselves on the back and claim how much smarter they are than the Front Office. 3 games over .500 doesn't prove much of anything right now, but what it does show is that Duke built a team that can contend. What more can we ask for than that?

You know what Gorilla Monsoon used to say..."A pat on the back is only 18 inches away from a kick in the pants."

Jerry Hairston!

I love the Crow but wasn't much on Lil Jerry, especially watching him overswinging all the time and going through that ludicrous thing he did between pitches which ended with him appearing to flick dust off his bat! He drove me up a wall watching that crap! Funny thing is after he left the O's he stopped the overswinging and batters box theatrics and became a better hitter too.

I was hoping your post was going to consist of recipes for the rest of us to try. :P

    • If he has been injured all this time, why are they still letting him play? After a month of poor performance with an injury, they should have sat him. EDIT - Screw a month, 2 weeks.
    • And McCann is our worst RHB facing a dominant lefty with reverse splits. You have to think a K is a high likelihood.  And then to send him up there with Ramon on 3rd, you have to expect the same outcome.
    • I don't like hearing that a catcher has a back issue -no matter how big or how small it is- at age 26.
    • IMO he made two decisions that were clearly wrong, pitching to Witt and not PR Holliday, to go along with a couple others I didn’t agree with but are certainly debatable. There is no doubt that the game was lost because the bats couldn’t push a run across, but everyone has a job to do, and like the batters, Hyde didn’t do his.
    • I use the StatCast search function. It’s a little more complicated for chase rate, ground ball rate, popup rate, and sweet spot rate because you need to adjust selected pitch attributes/outcomes as well as total pitch definition and then use % of pitches. I believe popups are categorized by stringers and generally capture balls that an infielder could catch.  I believe Adley’s fly balls have gotten can of cornier even without the popups.
    • ...or simply choose not to even attempt to play situational baseball.  As I posted in another thread, 0-0 game both teams aces are dealing.  Ced leads off the inning with a double.  Your #9 hitter (McCann) is coming to the plate with your two best hitters (Gunnar and Westburg) to follow. Instead of bunting Ced to 3rd and almost assuring yourself a 1-0 lead which firmly puts the pressure on KC, Hyde chooses to let McCann swing away.  He feebly strikes out, Gunnar grounds out (there was your run), and Westburg flies out.  0 runs, 1 hit, 0 errors. 1 left on....
    • Adley - Is it an injury? Is it a woman? Is it the "process?" Is it just who he is at his age? What Is It? And no, I'm not doing a pole. Wait till 2025 for the answer - I think. Till then - speculate. This off season goin be fun on here. This thread kinda makes me miss Rick Dempsey and I have absolutely no idea why. 😄 Oh yea, he was our last WSMVP.
