The ability to swing and hit a ball is a discrete, not relative, skill. It may be that Davis would not have had the opportunity in a different era, but it's unlikely to be very relevant to how Davis' swing ages.

I think at the very least it's lower then it was in 1978.

Of course I also think it's foolish to dismiss the historical K rate as simply being a product of the hitters' ability to make contact.

Then why mention Jackson's K rate?

The K rate in 1978 was 4.8.

The K rate in 2015 is 7.64.

I don't think Jackson had a superior skill in making contract.

But when he is hot,and he is hot right now, he can carry a team in a way a similar player like Adam Dunn could not.I think he will get 20m a yr. from someone like the Red Sox. I don't understand why you think Davis can carry a team when he's hot, but Adam Dunn couldn't. Do you think Dunn never had a streak when he hit 15 homers and had 42 RBI in 47 games? I'd be willing to bet that Dunn had several streaks like that in the course of his career.

Roy, are you saying that IF the Orioles matched the highest offer you don't think he'd stay? Why is that? He seems to like it here and we gave him the opportunity that surely Texas never did.

I personally don't think the O's would come close to being in the ballpark of what it's going to take to make a run at keeping him, but your comments make it seem like he wouldn't stay even if we did make that offer.
