The new-look bullpen is going to kill this team

Before worrying about the bullpen, I would tell our starters to stop giving runs back every time we score. Last night was on Gausman.

Oh vay - last night's loss sure has brought out the boo birds.

No, they lost last night because Gausman pitched badly. But the fact remains that the team has three relievers now who can't be trusted in a close game.

Getting rid of Norris was a positive step. If the team had replaced Norris with Givens and done nothing else they would have upgraded the bullpen. If they just had to have Jason Garcia then they could have DFAd Chaz Roe without much cost to the bullpen.

Trading Norris in for Garcia would be fine.

Moving Hunter and adding Givens would be fine.

Moving Norris for Garcia and moving Hunter for TJ Mac is not fine.

The whole release of Norris was to create a spot for Garcia, which was held temporarily by Wright, Rondon, and TJM. For whatever reason they sent Givens down instead of TJM. But lets not act like Givens would be trusted in a close.

We have 4 relievers for close games. About the same as everyone else.

Bullpen had nothing to do with last nights game. That's all on Gausman/Showalter and Reimold. Gausman couldn't put hitters away and gave in to them in pitcher's counts. Showalter made a horrible decision and DH'd Lake instead of playing him in LF. Reimold because he is so uncoordinated in the field. Plus he stranded two huge runs at 2nd and 3rd before the huge inning.
