I forgot, also if Britton is traded that's an estimated $6.9 mil saved with presumably something substantial in return.

Unless we're bringing O'day back then you can't trade Britton. The bullpen has been the biggest or one of the biggest reasons for success since 2012. We cannot weaken it any more. Givens is good but now the league gets to see him for a 2nd time. Then you start getting the other guys out of their roles and things could go south fast.

Britton is our only trade asset. That's why the FA market should be the way we go. Let DD do what he always does and piece a team together. Buck and DD can maximize the roster until the trade deadline. If it's a failure then it's time to trade Britton, MW, and Ubaldo.

So in hindsight we should not have offered the QO, forfeited the chance for the pick and saved the 15.8 M? If Wieters had then gone out and not found a suitable market, and had cone back hat in hand for a pillow contract, would we have been interested. If so how much would have been OK to pay him for one year?

Well in hindsight there is no chance for the pick because you know he takes the QO if offered. That's why it's hindsight.

But we should have offered the QO. We had to do that. Especially in the state our organization/farm system is in. We aren't going to be able to build that back up unless we stockpile picks. It didn't work out and we feel gutted about it, as we should if the concern is winning next year. But offering the QO was the right thing to do.

Trade Britton, let O'Day walk. We have far too many holes to hold on to a bullpen asset that could give us a big return, and far too many holes to have that amount of money tied into the bullpen.
