Os Sign O'Day for 4 Years - It's official

Nevermore

I think if we were the top deal it would have been done days ago. It must be a hard decision for him.

It should be a no brainer. Unless the Orioles absolutely insulted him, he should be back. A year from now, he could be in some organization that rejected him like James Shields, Jim Johnson and no one wants him. Why take that chance?

Why do you assume that "competitive offer" means it's all that close? My guess is the O's offered 3/21-24 but the market is 4/32-36.

That's a "competitive" offer, but it's still $10MM short.

I love O'Day, I do, but with all of our holes, and a self imposed cap or salary ceiling I don't see how bringing him back is possible, along with Wieters, if you are gonna fill other holes in starting pitching, the OF, and Davis/First base.

Forget Davis. All the money he could make wave bye. IMO

So they are betting that the O's don't participate in the bidding in a meaningful way.

Makes sense now. LA probably has the Miller like offer, but O'Day is unsure if he wants to take the money or stay near his wife. Maybe we hear something Monday.

I'll toss this out here. If O'Day signs elsewhere, maybe the Os try to get Holland on a cheaper 1 year deal for the closer role, and move Britton back to the rotation to replace Chen? I thought I've heard Britton would still prefer to be a starter. Most likely not going to happen though.
