What happens if the only path to the plate is through the catcher? Is it feasible that if Manny had collided with Martin trying to get to the plate, he would have been safe?

I agree he could have gone straight to the plate with a slide, cleats doing what they do. Then I'd like to see how Martin would have liked those apples AND been called for blocking the lane.
