The 6th inning shows a great feel for what he's trying to accomplish. Jim Palmer talks about "having an idea" on the mound when discussing how advanced he thinks Bundys approach is, Wells displays some very advanced feel in the 6th.

The inning begins with a bunt single, then look at the next AB (links 3 & 4) it's a thing of beauty, he clearly identified a spot he felt that hitter was weak & he abused it. He also threw over twice, which may be what kept the runner close enough for a DP forced to end the inning.

I wouldn't go based on gamecast.

One night I was following a Keys game and there were pitches down the middle called balls.

Yeah I've seen it off on mlb games so I didn't think it would necessarily be great but I imagine the fact that so many ABs had pitch after pitch put in the same location means something. I hope so, I enjoyed thinking Wells was peppering the corners most of the evening. ?

Wonder if he's on an IP limit at all. He's already thrown 40 more IP than last year.  He and Akin have been the lone full season SP to put up big time results all year.

With the caveat that he hasn't started all year, Lucas Long has put up much better numbers than either Akin or Wells. He has thrown 80 innings only 4 less than Akin.

That's why the caveat was there sir. If not you'd have to mention Long. Then probably Phellufo and Scott. It hasn't all been bad in full season ball this year.
